2004 Volvo XC90 - Not for the poor
This is a sturdy, well-built vehicle, that has safety and comfort written all over it. With side-curtain airbags, anti-skid braking, and numerous amenities such as back seat charging stations and radio controls, this is a very good family vehicle. The all-wheel-drive handles all kinds of weather, and status of driving a Volvo SUV also turns the occasional head, so Mom can drive this vehicle feeling good about herself. Our XC90 has lasted nearly 200,000 miles.
Story
We've taken this vehicle camping in the Black Hills of South Dakota, and the all-wheel-drive came in very handy when we had to escape a flash-flood at the campground in the middle of the night!
Pros
The side-curtain airbags and other safety features (as well as the safety reputation of Volvo) helped to sell us the car, since it's used primarily as a kid-taxi and for family road-trips. It's been incredibly reliable and has served our family for over ten years.
Cons
An unfortunate aspect of owning a Volvo is the cost for repairs and service. Local shops can handle small things like headlight repairs or oil changes, but there are few mechanics beside the dealer that I would trust. Parts are not always on hand, so you may have to wait on them being shipped from Sweden, which adds time and cost. Depending on where you live, a Volvo dealer may also be quite a ways away, further complicating repairs or work.

I love this vehicle! It is luxury at its finest, only the way a mom could enjoy. This vehicle comes with three rows of seating and is optimal for those long road trips or soccer pick ups. There are no issues with the interior nor the exterior. The car is at 160,000 miles, and I have yet to take it to a mechanic for any type of issues. The performance is steady and safe.
Story
Our first road trip to the mountains was amazing! It was so comfortable we even slept in our car.
Pros
Top things I love about this vehicle are the roominess of the three-row passenger seating, the soft luxurious leather seating and the fact that it never has any mechanical issues.
Cons
The only negative aspect is that this model does not have the turning signal on the side mirrors the way the newer models do.
