A no-brainer if you live in snow country, this is the ultimate vehicle to transport you, your family, pets and anyone or anything else in comfort and safety in the worst winter weather imaginable. It was born and bred in Sweden, of course, and those folks know winter. I live in the frozen north, and I've owned four Volvos through the years, each one rock-solid reliable and timeless.
Story
I can't focus on just one memorable story - there are so many, all involving driving home on I-89 at night when snow has just covered the roadway and the large SUVs running all-seasons are the first to lose control and spin out, while I proceed calmly on my way with no drama.
Pros
With proper winter tires, this car is nearly unstoppable in snow. It handles severe sub-zero temperatures, always starts easily and seems to thrive in all kinds of frozen precipitation. Heavy snow, black ice and all in-between are thoroughly manageable due to this car's stability, solidity, traction and it's great anti-lock braking system working in harmony with traction control and electronic stability control. During the rest of the year it is a relaxing, comfortable, quiet, luxurious way to spend hours or days on a long family road trip.
Cons
Volvos are not sports cars. They are not intended for white-knuckle, road racing that tests the car's handling ability at high speed.

Well, I have to say this car was a real gem of a find. I did my research on this beauty and was immediately taken by it online. I told my friend Frank about it the next day and he is into Volvo's. He was impressed and thought about getting one himself, but he already had a convertible one that was older. I shopped and compared this particular model and everything pretty much fell short of this one. I called local dealers and went online as well. I found a dealer not too far away and talked to a guy named Bill. He was very friendly, open, smart and no nonsense in his dealing with me. I immediately had rapport with him and felt he would hook me up with a great price and model of this car. He sure did. I took my friend Frank and it maybe took about 2 hours total to give it a test drive, g... (more)
Story
Taking a trip to Disneyland with a friend of mine in this car. Ride was so smooth, you didn't even care about the traffic. Was a beautiful day and had the AC blowing. Love this car.
Pros
Everything. Great gas mileage, performance, reliability, comfort, style, design. It runs and looks like a dream to me.
Cons
No considerations presently.

As a long time devotee to SUV's I was dubious when I first saw this car. I thought there was no way it could compete with one in the snow and bad weather but I was wrong. This car not only handles the bad stuff with ease, its comfortable to ride in while its happening. The ride is firm but good. As expected it has great ground clearance, typical Volvo strength and very Nordic styling. I have found the seats to be very comfortable, the controls logical and the car is just fun. That said I have had some reliability issues with it mechanically. Those repairs were also quite expensive.
Story
The first winter we had it we went skiing. We got caught in a massive snow storm and cars and trucks littered the roads. Our little Volvo just plugged along and made it through the snow and unplowed roads to the ski area.
Pros
Good ride compared to SUV, decent gas mileage, very safe, goes wherever you ask it to.
Cons
Love or leave it styling, expensive to maintain, questionable build quality.
