I bought my first Tiguan in 2012 which I leased. After the lease ran out, I decided to buy the car because I liked it so much.
Story
Last winter we spent 2 days on the road with our cat driving to Florida in the Tiguan. We all made the trip safe and sound.
Pros
What I love about the Tiguan is that it is a solidly built car. It has a turbo engine which comes in handy when I need to enter the highway. The car is only 2-wheel drive but handles fantastically well in snow and ice. The Tiguan is not the most glamorous car on the road, but it is one of the most reliable in my opinion.
Cons
The cons on buying a Tiguan are that I think it is a little over-priced compared to other models. But Volkswagens tend to be a bit pricey. If I were to buy the car again, I would get fewer options which would result in a lower price. Another thing is that because my car has a turbo it uses high-test gas (although I get along quite well with mid-grade). I have had some minor annoying issues with the tires. When I drive for long periods of time, the tire sensors tend to indicate that the pressure is low. These readings are incorrect and due to the tires heating up.

The Tiguan is a small SUV. It is ideal for anyone who wants and SUV but does not want to feel like they are driving a truck. For an SUV, the Tiguan has a smooth ride. It has a turbo which gives it a lot of pick up, but due to the turbo, the Tiguan also requires premium fuel which adds to the expense of running the car. However, the Tiguan is nice to look at and has a somewhat distinctive look that most American SUV's don't have now American auto manufacturers appear to be copying the styling of Asian manufacturers.
Story
We are planning on driving the Tiguan from Rhode Island to Florida at the end of this month, just 2 adults and one cat. Wish us luck.
Pros
The Tiguan handles well, and has a lot of pick up. It uses less fuel than larger SUVs. It comes fully loaded or can be purchased with fewer options for thrifty buyers. The back seats fold down totally flat for more cargo room if needed.
Cons
Due to the turbo, the Tiguan takes premium fuel. It is not the ideal SUV for someone who needs a lot of cargo space. The engine is a bit noisy which is typical of Volkswagens.
