The Volkswagen Routan is a well-built minivan with an edge. The Volkswagen detailing makes it seem more stylish than your average minivan, but it is essentially the body of a Chrysler Town & Country with VW upgrades. It has a V6 so is fast when needed, and the handling is what you would expect from Volkswagen.
Story
It has a great roof rack that is easy to use, so we can take our paddle boards anywhere, and we really enjoy the ability to do this.
Pros
The Routan has an incredible amount of cargo space while still being roomy for a family of four. There are compartments beneath the rear seat floor that hold a lot of items if you are travelling. There are vents in the rear that make it comfortable for our dog when heading to our cabin. We have two teenage boys and they are both over six feet tall, and there is plenty of head room and leg room for them. The SEL has all the bells and whistles that make it seem like a luxury car, such as premium audio, built-in navigation, Sirius XM radio and automatic doors, windows and seats and a vide... (more)
Cons
The negatives about the Routan are few. The drivers seat is fully automatic, but the front passenger seat isn't (nor are the rear seats), and this seems particularly odd in the front seat. The faux leather seats aren't too bad, but at the original sticker price, they could have splurged for real.

We are a military family and therefore are in the car a lot traveling home to family for visits. We needed a vehicle that was affordable and roomy. This has been a great mini van as it fit both of those. It is stylish with leather but not at the high end of the budget, so we got the upgrades we wanted for the stylish look without the price. The automatic doors are probably my favorite part of it as I have little ones, and it makes life easier. I love how roomy it is for their bulky car seats, so there's still plenty of leg room and room to get around them if needing to go to the back. Overall, it's been a great minivan, and I would buy another one day for sure.
Story
The trips we have taken in it. Our trip to Gatlinburg this year was fun and van hauled up the mountain no problem.
Pros
The automatic doors are my biggest pro. With young kids, they are always nice to have. The extra space it gives, even with bulky car seats as opposed to SUVs. The affordable price helped us get exactly what we wanted and needed. The third row allows us to fit my parents or other people in there comfortably when needed. I haven't had to do any maintenance on it really the last almost three years having it.
Cons
I don't have a lot of cons. It shifts funny sometimes when putting it into gear. There's no built-in DVD player or navigation system. The gas mileage could be better.
