2008 Volkswagen Rabbit Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
2008 Volkswagen Rabbit - Comfortable driver seat, somewhat expensive maintenance.
I have enjoyed owning this car. It's a nice size. I can comfortably seat 4 people. The hatchback makes it easy to carry larger items like luggage, and the flexible cover for the hatchback makes it so no one can see what I'm carrying. I have owned the car for about 7 years and had to have the master cylinder replaced under the extended warranty. I have also had to have the alternator replaced, and this car seems to go through batteries more than my Subarus did. These repairs seemed a bit more expensive than on my other cars, but repairs always cost more than you would like.
Story
You can fit much more than you would think in a hatchback. I squashed so many things into this car moving from Nebraska to Missouri.
Pros
My main consideration in buying a sedan/hatchback was a comfortable driver seat. It's painful for me to sit in a car for over 30 minutes, so I was looking for a car with a telescoping steering wheel. I'm 5 foot 6 inches, so many card have my arms far away from me and up at my shoulder height or above. I really like that the steering wheel moves forward and back as well as up and down, and that I can move it closer to my knees. I also liked that the seat is adjustable up and down instead of just forward and back. The heated seats are awesome too. I like the hatchback and that the back seats... (more)
Cons
Repair costs seem more expensive, but that may be how it is for a foreign car. My rear windshield wiper housing mysteriously disappeared. I think it fell off while driving. Major parts like the alternator and master cylinder had to be replaced within the first 6 years of owning the car, so that was a bit disappointing. The dark interior shows dirt more than I would like. I would go for a brown, closer to dirt color floor and seats next time.
2008 Volkswagen Rabbit - 2008 VW Rabbit review
I have owned a 2008 VW Rabbit for about five years now. It is white and has a 2.5 liter engine. It is the four-door version. I like the fact that it is smaller and fun to drive. I wish it was a stick shift, but that was not an option when I bought it. It is good on gas mileage and with 90,000 miles; it hasn't been overly expensive to maintain throughout the years.
Story
Some fun moments with this car involved taking summer trips to Pittsburg and other different cities to see new places.
Pros
I liked that it was smaller, but the inside still seemed big enough for four people. Since I do not have kids and rarely drive people around, I usually have the back seats folded down so the space acts as a large trunk. It seems like it is good on gas mileage and so far, it has held up pretty well. I also like that it has heated seats which come in handy during the winter.
Cons
One of the downsides to this car is that it is not very good in the snowy conditions. It is only two-wheel drive, and the car sits so low to the ground, it does not perform very well if there is snow on the roads. Another issue I have had with this car is that the air conditioner broke a few years ago. I have not had the money to get it fixed since it is a pretty costly repair. It also does not have a sunroof. I had a sunroof on my car before this and miss that aspect very much.
