2011 Volkswagen Passat - Mixed Feelings
The car handles very well, has sports mode which definitely helps with the smooth drive. Is very compact and fits into every parking space, and I'm not sure if its possible but even the blind spot seems smaller. The fuel efficiency is great and the car is rated incredibly safe, however I am a big fan of comfort and after having an SUV I dislike the Passat. Maintenance costs added up, and after a sleeping trucker knocked off our passenger side mirror on the freeway, the parts were hell to track down.
Story
Volkswagen provided free roadside assistance which once came to pick us up and the mechanic was so nice that he gave us advice on the error the people who had serviced our car had made free of cost. Since he was aware of the error, he simply started the car instead of making us pay for the towing, which we had thought necessary until he explained the problem.
Pros
Style is nice and very mainstream. Wonderful handling and smooth drive. Great fuel efficiency and impressive safety rating. Good warranty and guarantee from Volkswagen. Nice interior, only nice, not amazing. Came with GPS in dashboard and good speakers.
Cons
Very little trunk space and even less leg room. Replacement parts are both expensive and hard to find. Difficulty with hooking up phones to hands free blue tooth. In-car GPS erratic and sometimes is unable to link to satellite. Were extremely unhappy to find out about the recall only after we had been driving the car, and had taken it in for servicing, they should have let us know prior as soon as it was public knowledge.
