2003 Volkswagen Passat - 2003 Passat- still going!
I still really like driving my 2003 Volkswagen Passat. It's a mid-sized sedan that was intended as the higher end option at the time, so it has heated seats, moon room, and other options. But much more than that, I really enjoy its handling and precise steering. It feels like a perfect mix between luxury and practicality, aging as it is. It has a reputation for needing a lot of maintenance, but I have not found it to be excessive, especially since I have 270,000 miles on it. In that time, the timing belt has been replaced twice and other standard maintenance has been done. As of now, it is going strong as ever. I also very much appreciate its design and appearance, which I believe is much better than the newer Passat models.
Story
I remember driving it alongside a friend who was running a 60 mile race for a fundraiser in order to give him company and encouragement!
Pros
Without a doubt my favorite thing about the vehicle is its precise steering and handling, including excellent turning radius. It is just fun to drive. I realized this especially after test driving an SUV. I was considering buying a new car, but just preferred my Passat for its more precise driving experience.
Cons
Given its age, this is to be expected, but the leather seats are badly worn. Any other negative is really only an indication of its age. For example, I had to have the brake line fixed and have had to replace two axles. But it has 270,000 miles on it.
