I absolutely love my car. Its high quality, great on gas and gets complements all the time. Its completely loaded. There is a sunroof. It has automatic controls for everything. The sound system is manufactured by Monsoon and it puts out a great sound. The tires are a strange size and considerably more expensive than one would anticipate to pay. That's actually an overarching quality about this car. The parts are expensive. The engineering is different from American or Japanese made cars. This was the last production year in which Volkswagen used authentic AUDI parts. The car is (was) rock solid mechanically. It shows all age appropriate wear but shows it really well and I would like to believe this car will last me another 100k miles. Currently has 150 k on it with no major problems. A... (more)

I like being able to jet around the traffic in my area. I live around people that like to drive slow. Its nice to have a car that allows me to tear by them on a whim.
Pros
The trim level is outstanding. I'm almost certain the interior is vinyl. This makes it easier to clean than leather. It has all of the same appeal as leather despite it not really being leather. I absolutely love having a sun roof- Its a way to cool the car off a little quicker. I commute a long distance so there are certain key factors that I will list next that are all essential for the comfort in a long commute. The sound system is great. There are a variety of inputs for media. There are also controls that allow me to adjust bass, treble, etc. for best sound. The car handles extremely ... (more)
Cons
Parts are expensive. The car is hard to work on- There was a time when it took 2 minutes to replace a part that took 30 minutes to locate and 2 hours to disassemble/reassemble to replace. There are subtleties to the German engineering that most people scratch their heads over when working on the car. The tires are an odd size and also expensive. There are certain things about Volkswagen that are notorious and bound to happen. The glue on certain electrical panels - for example- drivers window/lock controls has popped out of the hole without reason. I haven't mentioned as of yet that this c... (more)

I love the style of this car. Both the interior and exterior are so sleek. The leather interior makes it feel like I paid more for it than I did. I also love how smooth the drive is. I have driven the vehicle 34,000 miles and have not experienced any major problems. That includes a cross-country trip. The trunk and backseat are both very spacious. I have moved twice with this vehicle and the space provided for moving boxes and even furniture has been a big help I wasn't expecting. I especially enjoy the audio features provided to me. I can listen to the radio, CDs, through an auxiliary cord or through Bluetooth on my phone. The Bluetooth is a major bonus for me because I make a lot of long trips so this allows me to easily listen to music or make phone calls. The steering wheel feature... (more)
Story
I live in Arizona and my brother and I often take my car out into the desert, about 30 minutes away from our house to look at stars. We park where it is very dark, get out and lay on the hood of the car and look at the stars or meteor showers. We leave the windows rolled down a bit to listen to music while we watch the sky.
Pros
One thing I find great is the gas mileage. In a 6+ hour trip I have been able to fill up my gas tank just once at the beginning of the trip and make it all the way to my destination on that tank.
Cons
One thing I don't like is how the CD player functions. It isn't very intuitive as far as changing out CDs. I often find it takes me longer to change out a CD than I find ideal. This discourages me from using the CD player.

I bought the vehicle for $700 when I was 17. I have since fixed it, crashed it, and fixed it. Its still going and is a reliable car. The v6 runs very smoothly although most maintenance can be pricy if you don't do it yourself. Mechanically it is an Audi, so parts can be expensive as well. Still at the end of the day it has a great stereo, a smooth ride, and an exceptional amount of cargo space.
Story
I crashed if a year after I bought it. Got t-boned on the way to sugarloaf ski resort. Did some serious damage. I had to repaint door, repair unibody, and replace suspension parts.
Pros
I mainly bought the car for the storage space. The car is like driving a couch. Some of the interior options are also nice. It has a heated leather seats and climate control. I also love the suspension design on this vintage of Passat. Great double wishbone front suspension, and adequate rear.
Cons
Sadly, there are quite a few. It is terrible in the snow. It weighs almost 3,700 lbs., so it is comparable to a small struck. Pair that with a large footprint, heavy frontend, front biased braking, and you have a death trap. Aside from that the gas mileage is not up to par, around 17-23mpg. The fun factor of this car is also non existent due to the lack of power and plush suspension. I feel that these compromises need to be made in order to get a practical daily driver.
