2008 Volkswagen Jetta - Nice mid-size car for the money.
We bought the car used in very good condition with low miles. It has performed up to my expectation and prior experience with VWs. The styling is very good. The gas consumption is normal for the size. The interior is comfortable, and the trunk is huge. We have had a few minor though irritating issues with it, but overall, it has performed very well.
Story
The first trip we took with this car was right after we bought it about 100 miles to a festival. It was a fun time. The first long drive in a new car is always memorable.
Pros
The best thing I can say about the car is the power is more than enough for daily driving in and around town. The seats are very comfortable for long trip and have excellent adjustability. It is very good on gas mileage. It can haul much more than you would think it could looking at it. The rear seats fold down, extending the space in the already large trunk. It looks good, and it handles very well. Parts are surprisingly not hugely expensive. It is also very easy to work on.
Cons
There are not many cons except we did have an issue with an intermittent misfire that took awhile to track down and fix. It has had a couple minor electrical problems, something that is kind of common with VWs. Finding a mechanic to work on these is also a little challenging, but I do most work myself. Changing the oil is bit of a pain, especially given it needs done every 7,000 miles.
2007 Volkswagen Jetta - Great travel vehicle
While I was in college, I was leasing a 2007 Passat. My parents helped me pick out this car after I graduated from high school. I drove the vehicle to and from my college and to my job as a nanny. I loved the amazing gas mileage it got, because as a college student, I wanted to make sure I received the most value for my money. I also took the vehicle on trips and was very pleased.
Story
I will always remember the trips I took to see my boyfriend who was stationed in NC. I was always so excited to make the trip to see him.
Pros
The most positive thing about the Passat was the amazing gas mileage. My, now husband, but was my boyfriend at the time, was stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC, while I was in college. I could always count on my vehicle to get me there, not only safely, but cheaply. I remember only having to fill my tank once while on the trip from Georgia to North Carolina, which was little over 500 miles. The valuable trunk space was also very beneficial when traveling because I could fit plenty of luggage in the car.
Cons
The one con I can think of is that I wish the back seats were more spacious. When I took the children I nannied places, they always felt cramped.
