2001 Volkswagen Jetta - Slightly Above Average Car
This was probably the best car I've owned. I really enjoyed the features that came with the trim level I had chosen. The heated seats, heated mirrors, cruise control, and premium sound system stood out the most. Although this is a cheaper car, I associate those features with luxury, and it made me feel as though I was driving a much nicer car than I actually owned. The car got great gas mileage as well, but started giving me some mechanical issues later on.
Story
I took it on a road trip into a national park near where I live. It performed awesomely.
Pros
Fantastic gas mileage. I felt as though I owned a premium vehicle, even though this was a cheaper car. The leather interior, premium sound, and advanced climate control were really nice. Climate control especially. It was really cool how you could set it like a thermostat and it would automatically maintain that temperature. When I switched to a car that did not have this feature I found myself wishing I had it. It was very nice not to have to fiddle with the temperature controls on a constant basis.
Cons
There was an issue that developed later in my ownership term wherein the sunroof drains became clogged with mud over the years and caused water to pool up in the compartment that holds the cabin air filter. This caused the water to run down the vents that directed air into the footwells of the car, which eventually pooled up to over 12"s high in the rear passenger footwells. I only noticed it because the car was constantly fogging up on the interior and smelling of mold. I was able to fix this, but it was a gigantic pain.
