I bought this car when it was about five years old and had 65,000 miles on it. It was a good buy since the miles were so low. This was the second Volkswagen I'd owned. The first was a Golf about ten years earlier, and I was surprised at how much more solid the Jetta is. It's a manual transmission and has a fair amount of power, especially when accelerating. Given the fact that the car is twelve years old, it's missing a lot of the bells and whistles that newer cars have, but it has held up amazingly well. The only real repair that I had to make was a few years after I got it when the fabric began separating from the ceiling. Story
I live in the Midwest where we get a considerable amount of snow. Once, I ended up doing an airport run during a blizzard and passed three four-wheel drive SUVs that had gone off the road.
Pros
As mentioned above, the car is solid and performs well. The engine is quiet but powerful. It truly drives like a German car and is good in the city and on the highway, both in terms of mileage and performance. I love that it hasn't required any real maintenance aside from oil changes. I also like the car's style. Despite its age, it doesn't look dated at all. Daytime running lights are standard on this model. Cons
As mentioned above, the fabric on the ceiling began detaching a few years after I bought the car and needed to be replaced. I did this at a local repair shop for about a third of the price that the dealer wanted. There is significant rust on one of the wheel wells. Also as mentioned above, the engine light comes on periodically, but we haven't been able to discern why. If the wheels are turned when you park, they sometimes lock. I own a 2008 Volkswagen Jetta S. I bought this car brand new and have only had to make minor wear and tear type repairs. It has been very reliable. I like the sportiness of the vehicle. It is very comfortable for my family and has held up very well. I drive it every day and have not had any mechanical problems. It has good get up and go and gets up to speed on the highway quickly. It handles well in bad weather, even in snow. I wish it had a few more bells and whistles, but it is a basic model. The gas mileage could be better as well.
Story
We took the car on a road trip around the state and enjoyed many laughs and fun adventures.
Pros
It's a reliable vehicle that doesn't break down or have any mechanical problems. I love the heated seats in winter which warm me up before the car heater can heat up the car. It is a basic model, but still has a stylish dash and looks nice inside.
Cons
I wish it had more cup holders and another 12V jack for phone charging. The gas mileage could be better. It only gets about 27 mpg on the highway and for a small car, it should perform better than that. I also wish it had built in satellite radio.
