2002 Volkswagen Jetta - Not perfect but still great!
I bought my Jetta after a car accident totaled my previous car in 2008. It was in good condition but had high mileage. I loved the design of the car -- it's easy and functional. I prefer a compact car. The car had the iconic Volkswagen look inside and out. Upon hitting 200,000 miles, however, I began to have expensive car repairs. This is understandable at the mileage marker, but I bought it under the understanding that many of the "expensive" items had been replaced. I did like the ease of the car. Even though it was small, I could fit my boyfriend, guitar case & amp to take to different gigs I played around the city. I sold it in 2011.
Story
I drove that car throughout college, so it has a lot of sentimental value. I drove it into the city for concerts, gigs and all over the state of Texas with my significant other.
Pros
I loved the look of the car and the gas mileage was pretty great. There weren't many gas-efficient cars out on the market back in the 2000s and I believe my Jetta was a great find in terms of that. I also loved the name-brand affiliation. Call me shallow, but knowing I had a Volkswagen-brand car made me feel special and kind of important!
Cons
There were minor mechanical issues with the car the entire time I had it. It wasn't the fault of the company, but the previous owner had not been gentle with the car. There was a leak that somehow would pour into the floor on the passenger side from underneath the dashboard. Anytime it would rain, we'd be in trouble. I also didn't love the rough edges of the design. It's nice to look at, but there are other cars that are American-made that have a more rounded and comfortable shape to their seats and interior design.
1981 Volkswagen Jetta - Great car!
I loved the fuel economy the most, 45-50mpg on a regular basis. The vehicle was easy to work on, and parts were reasonable. The build quality was also excellent, over 100,000+ miles and no rattles, loose panels or anything that you might expect to see in a vehicle with similar mileage. I loved the 5 speed manual transmission. The back seat was large and roomy, and the rear doors would open straight out to the full width of the opening....Large speaker boxes fit easily. The only issue that I ever had with it, was the engines vibration giving my girlfriend a headache...
Story
Teaching my girlfriend to drive a stick shift. It held up incredibly well!

Cons
Diesel rattle. Not very sexy, or fast. Only 90 horsepower. No sunroof.
