2014 Volkswagen Jetta - Love the car, even amidst the crisis
I have been very pleased with the car since I purchased it. It delivers an ideal amount of performance while also delivering superior fuel economy. I drive my car mostly on the highway and I achieve 40+ mpg all the time while also being able to pass people easily. It is a consistent vehicle and it allows me to drive the car further between fill ups than I would be able to do with a gasoline car. I enjoy the luxury that the car offers as well. The vinyl "leatherette" seats could fool me into believing they are leather. The stereo is fantastic and I enjoy the Bluetooth audio feature, too. Overall, the build quality is excellent and there are no rattles at all. The car feels solid and I feel like I get to drive a Mercedes-Benz quality vehicle at VW prices.
Story
I've taken the car up to 120+ mph on the highway and it still feels buttoned down at high speed. You can really appreciate the German engineering when you drive the car at autobahn speeds on U.S. highways.
Pros
My favorite feature is the diesel engine, with its fuel economy and performance being excellent. I get fantastic mileage and the turbo makes it fun to drive while saving fuel. While the car may pollute more than originally thought, I still feel good about the purchase because diesel fuel is more efficient than gasoline. One of my other favorite features is the DSG, automated manual transmission. The shifts are quick, crisp, and satisfying. I enjoy it far more than a traditional automatic. I also enjoy the heated seats, heated mirrors, Bluetooth audio, leatherette seats, soft-touch dash, an... (more)
Cons
The car is a bit sluggish before it warms up. This affects both the performance of the diesel engine and the shifting performance of the DSG transmission. Finally, I also would be happier if the front passenger seat folded flat and the back seats folded completely flat as well.
2001 Volkswagen Jetta - Junky Jetta.
I bought this junky Jetta (although, I did not know it was junky at the time) for a car to get to and from school and work. I thought that a Jetta was a nice brand, but I was wrong! It is a very cheaply made car and is the most uncomfortable car I have ever been in. It is even worse than the Ford Taurus I had. It smelled funny, and the A/C leaked. The electrical system is horrible. If one light is working, the rest don't. If I get them working, something else electrical goes out. None of the lights or signals ever work at the same time. The paint is fading, and I notice this same problem on other Jettas, and they all have muffler problems. Listen to any Jetta you see on the road. It makes a rattling noise I can assure you. Luckily, my father can work on cars, so he has mana... (more)
Story
When I got a new puppy. She was just the right height to stick her little head out the window.
Pros
It is good on gas and fitting in small parking places. That is about all I can think of for the pros.
Cons
Everything listed in the review is a con. This car is very cheaply made and it shows. It is uncomfortable and had many electrical problems and muffler problems. The cheap latch on the glove box has been broken and replaced many times. It is just very cheap.
