Volkswagen Golf Owner Ratings & Reviews

1982 Volkswagen Golf - My old beater!
I inherited this car from my older brother, and he got the car as a hand me down from his Dad (My step Dad). It’s been beat up over the years and served to teach two other young teenagers how to drive later in its life too. Not too flashy in the late nineties or later (Much later) it can still kick around though. It was always good with costs and I always liked that. Having this smaller car does wear though if you’re a taller person but is well suited for a medium sized or smaller person in general.
Story
Many road / county trips as a teen in the corn hills lol. Just friend driving in the summers.
Pros
It weighs little, to push it out of mud holes and other road hazards is easy. It's a compact car, smaller for parking and space. It has good fuel efficiency, never did cost too much to ride around.
Cons
Older Parts are much harder to find now and some are vintage, the shocks on this thing even new were never great. The insides rotted out years back and the interior looks rather dismal, it aged quickly, cargo space is very limited. It is low to the ground, bad in winter driving.
1999 Volkswagen Golf - Good little runner
My VW Polo was a great used car that I got great value out of. It did have its issues, e.g., the handbrake snapped and the exhaust fell off during my first use, but it was mainly a solid drive until it packed in. I got it for cheap, and its maintenance was reasonable. It had a decent interior but nothing modern, only a tape deck and even manual windows. It was a nice navy blue color with black and grey interior.
Story
The first time I drove this car was with my friends to the local pub. On the way the exhaust fell off, but I had no idea what the problem was. After getting playful abuse from my friends, an AAA van finally appeared and it took the mechanic all but 10 seconds to fix as the exhaust had just fallen out of its holder. Very embarrassing for me when I was trying to woo some ladies!
Pros
The cost to run the VW was pretty cheap, as it had decent gas mileage. The cost of repairs was not too unreasonable either, as parts were readily available. It handled well and had a pleasing zip to it when you pushed the accelerator. The interior was pleasant and had a nice cozy vibe to it.
Cons
I had a couple of problems from the off with the car, which involved the exhaust falling off and the handbrake snapping. After that baptism of fire, it ran well for a good couple of years until I had more substantive exhaust issues and eventually the engine packed in. For all electronics, though, it was fine.
