I bought a 2000 Winnebago Rialta with the VW Eurovan chassis. It is equipped the VR6 engine which is very efficient and powerful. The overall quality of the chassis is good, but there were a few bugs along the way. The twin electric fans were recalled due to catastrophic failure. I was not aware of the recall and encountered such a failure on a road trip. The scarcity of VW dealerships in my area made it very difficult to get a repair done. The other problem I experienced was the sealed automatic transmission... This comes from VW with no way to add transmission fluid. I experienced a total transmission failure before 50,000 miles. Even with these issues, the Eurovan is a really nice chassis for a small RV. I would buy it again if I had the chance.
Story
I have so many happy memories of road trips/camping with my family, and that makes this vehicle special to me. It also served as a safe way for me to get home from the hospital after breaking my neck (and associated surgery). An indispensable part of my fleet that I will never sell.
Pros
Excellent gas mileage. Quiet operation. Superior performance under load. Good workmanship on assembly. No wasted space. Easy to read instrument panel and controls.
Cons
Automatic transmission is "maintenance free" and this is a huge mistake. Battery replacement is an incredibly difficult task. Throttle body seems to get dirty too easily. Mass air flow sensor needs replacing too often. Electric fan assembly with catastrophically self-destruct and blow plastic bits through the radiator. Cab air conditioner coolant leaks were frequent soon after purchase.

We just love our Eurovan! For a family of six, it is both economical and practical. We have traveled cross country and then some. What a hearty vehicle! The body style is now being seen in many American vehicles. I would definitely say Volkswagen is a pioneer in style and class. Plenty of room and stow away features are great so we can really "pack it in". We affectionately call our van "The BRB" (big red bus)
Story
Our road trips are endless! We travel from one end of the country to the other. There is never a dull moment. The best compliments we receive is about how practical our European is. We open up the back hatch and the door becomes an easy shade and the back bench is our serving area. Always a hit! We haven't tailgated, but I'm sure it would perfect for such an event!
Pros
We love the practicality of the vehicle. It is roomy with plenty of features that make road trips easy and comfortable. The back facing seating and table, which are road trippers dream. Kids sit cozy in the back eating a snack or meal, playing games or playing on the laptop or other digital device on the sturdy flip table. Yes, the table can be stowed away!
Cons
In hot weather (i.e. Desert southwest), the air conditioning is minimal. But, I don't think European vehicles are made for extreme heat. We've had a/c issues in all of our VW's.

Loved this car. This was our first foray into campers, prior to buying a motorhome. This car drives like a car, not a camper, extremely smooth ride. Seats are extremely comfortable and ride is quiet; no rattles. Good acceleration. Liked the comfort and roominess of the cab. Had it for two years and not one problem. Good gas mileage for a van. Could drive it anywhere and it fit into any campsite.
Story
On one of our first camping trips, we had just adopted a new doggie to our family. He was in the back and completely ate the plastic that covered the rear d/c outlet.
Pros
The drive. Extremely quiet for a camper van, and extremely comfortable. Setup was extremely fast and easy. Pop top went up very fast, and it was easy to put away.
Cons
We had the Eurovan Winnebago model........The only negative was that there was no toilet or a/c in the back. I can't think of anything else negative about the Eurovan.
