1995 Volkswagen Cabrio - 2 Door, convertible. Fun, sporty, 5 speed.
I have a green, 1995 VW Cabrio Convertible. I like that it is a convertible because in the summer, I can take the top off and cruise around in it. I live near the beach, so it's wonderful to throw all my beach things in the back and head to the ocean. It is 5 speed, 2 wheel drive. It is 2 door, with power locks and power windows. It is all original, except for the convertible top. I had to purchase a new one for it a few years ago because it started to leak. It has the original stereo in it, from the factory. It has AM FM with a cassette player. It doesn't have a CD player in it, and I chose not to put one it because I didn't want to take away from the originality of the car. It is really a fun car to drive, and it gets great gas mileage.
Story
During the summer, a few years ago, a few friends and I went to Myrtle Beach SC for a week. We drove the VW with the top down...and we had such a wonderful time! We actually got to drive it on the beach for about an hour...which was something that we had never done before!
Pros
The positive things about my vw are that first and foremost, it's a convertible. Also, it's small and compact. It gets great gas mileage, and it is easy to drive. I like it because I can get three people in the backseat, and one in the passenger side. I also like it because of the year it was made. I bought it new...And paid cash for it back in the day. I don't have a car payment, and the insurance is really cheap on it. It handles like a charm...With good steering and stopping. The trunk is just the right size for the car, and it's easy to load and unload things. I love the color of my ca... (more)
Cons
The negative things about my vw are these: I had to purchase a new cloth top for it a few years ago, which cost a lot of money. The place that I took it to get the top installed charged too much and didn't put the new top on the correct way, which caused it to leak. They didn't put the rubber seals back on it, and now, every time it rains, my car leaks. Also, the stereo quit working, the heat quit working, and now the air conditioner has stopped working. I took it to the shop for repair, and when they told me how much it would cost to get it repaired, I was in shock. It is going to cost me... (more)
1997 Volkswagen Cabrio - Great for style, decent for function
I had a 1997 VW Cabrio convertible until this past year. My favorite aspect of the vehicle were its durability and comfort. Though I did have some engine issues and parts that needed repaired, this is to be expected of any vehicle that is owned and operated regularly for over a decade. I also really enjoyed the convertible top and the leather interior, though I think my dog actually liked it better than I did.
Story
My favorite thing to do with this car was to drive along the beaches with the convertible top down. One time, back when I was single, my friend and I were cruising down the road along the beach. These two girls we had never met just came up to the car and asked if they could hop in the backseat and get a ride up the road to their hotel. Long story short, we ended up spending the rest of the we... (more)
Pros
The car was always reliable, and I found it to be very durable considering that it was a small, compact car. It was very stylish, especially with the convertible top. Many of my friends and family liked it, and I received many compliments from strangers over the years. It was also a very comfortable vehicle with the convertible top and the leather seating (as long as you did not have to fit more than one adult in the backseat because there was not a lot of leg room in the back with this style of car).
Cons
I did have multiple electrical issues with the car over the years. The temperature control and the stereo were the two components with the most frequent issues. I had these problems regularly, even when the vehicle was only a few years old. I must have had the temperature controls fixed nearly half a dozen times that I owned the car, and I eventually purchased a portable music device to put in the car to use instead of the built-in stereo. I was also slightly disappointed with fuel efficiency. I would track my fuel usage occasionally, and I found that in general I was not quite getting the... (more)
1996 Volkswagen Cabrio - A fun car that stands the test of time
The '96 VW Cabrio was the first car I ever owned and it was, by far, my favorite. This car makes you feel free with the top down cruising down the road and will last you as long as you need it for. I kept this car for over 10 years and it looked and drove as great as it did when I purchased it. I was also extremely impressed with the construction, I was in a few fender benders and the car held up amazingly around me. I always felt extremely safe. While it may seem impractical for some, I was able to fit five people comfortably in the car for longer road trips. The only reason I am still not driving this car is that I now have a young family and it was time to get something with four doors. I can't recommend this car enough to potential buyers.
Story
I was terrible at parallel parking and I had to do it one day in the downtown area. I had never attempted it with the top down. I was with a few of my friends who knew how bad I was. With the top down I had a lot greater vision and was able to successful execute the parking job in one try. My friends began clapping for me as to a few onlookers. It was funny and embarrassing but I also secretly... (more)
