1999 Volkswagen Beetle - She's been a good friend for me
I have had my Beetle since I was in high school. I bought it used, but it was in good condition. It has its quirks and issues, but overall I have had a good experience with the car. It has lasted me quite a long time and held up well, in my opinion.
Story
One of the first days I drove my car, I got pulled over by a police woman. I was sure I hadn't been speeding or doing anything wrong, so I was kind of scared. She told me that I had to have a license plate on the front of my car, and I told her there wasn't a place for one, she told me I had to get something to put a license on the front, so I said OK. Pros
I love the design of VW Beetles in general, they're so cute. It's one of the only car models that I can distinguish from all the others out there on the road. I like that it gets good gas mileage. I have really enjoyed the amount of headroom. It's spoiled me because when I get in other cars now, I feel like my head is being cramped by their roofs. I like how the engine is fairly simple to figure out. I am by no means a car expert and I can figure out how to check the oil and fill it, how to fill the antifreeze, and I can fill the windshield wiper fluid easily by myself as well.
Cons
I have had a lot of electrical issues or "ticks" as I call them. Just weird little things that the car does more and more as it has gotten older. For example the sun roof will open by itself when I'm driving, occasionally. I've also had some trouble with the headlights and taillights needing replaced and fixed. Also had trouble with the locks. Even had to have one door lock totally replaced, and it didn't hold up for too long. I found ways to deal with those things, though.
