Toyota RAV4 Owner Ratings & Reviews

2006 Toyota RAV4 - Solid vehicle
After an accident, we bought a used RAV4 Sport from a friend. It wasn't a vehicle we normally would have considered, but, after time, it began to show its value. It is a reliable vehicle that is good on fuel economy, though it tends to use a little more gas while doing "in town" trips. The cockpit is relatively spacious giving the pilot a decent panoramic view of their surroundings. For a daily commuter, it offers pretty much what you would expect out of a mid-price range vehicle. The issues we have with the vehicle are pretty much concerns that Toyota addressed in their newer models. There are a lot of body creaks, squeaks, and moans that the pilot becomes aware of almost immediately. There were also more issues with factory installed components that incurred multiple recalls causing ... (more)
Story
So far, the best memory of this vehicle is when we took it a little ways up the coast on Hwy 1 and visited Wayfarer's Chapel in Ranchos Palos Verdes, outside of Long Beach, CA.
Pros
One of the most positive aspects of the Toyota RAV4 Sport is that, for a mid-range SUV, it does get very decent mileage for commuting in town but does very well on the interstates for extended driving. The inside of the cockpit is accommodating, providing a decent sound system that offers a variety of different audio options. Maintenance and care for this vehicle is relatively straight forward giving the owner the ability to self-maintain the vessel with relatively little to no difficulty. Everything is relatively easy to reach and within sight. The parts are moderately priced, and executi... (more)
Cons
Unfortunately for the Toyota RAV4 Sport, there were so many little factory "snafus," it nearly ruins the reputation of this little work horse. While driving, the pilot will notice all of the body noises from the vehicle. Due to the placement of the spare tire, the welds that hold the rim bracket in place groan while the tailgate rattles on bumps. The window channels chirp as well. Another concern with the spare tire bracket is that the air sensor is very sensitive and will throw "false positives" sometimes if the air pressure in the tire drops below 32PSI. There is an annoyance when it com... (more)
2006 Toyota RAV4 - Get adventurous. Get a RAV4.
The Rav 4 Sport is by far my favorite car that I have owned and quite possibly is my dream vehicle. I cannot imagine having another car that would fit my current needs better and look so damn nice in the process. It is the perfect adventure vehicle and being that I am a college student is the perfect combination of price, full economy, and visual appeal. I can take my friends out to all the destinations and always have enough room.
Story
I took it on a road trip across Oregon. It was snowing over the Mackenzie pass and the car plowed right through everything. We made a stop at the hot springs, followed by staying in a yurt in the mountains and topped it off with a trip to the painted hills. The weekend could have been a commercial.
Pros
Fuel economy is an over looked aspect of this SUV. Most SUVs are extremely expensive on gas however, the Rav4 gets very good fuel economy so that I can drive to far away destinations with no worries about breaking the bank. Another major pro is the amount of room available in the car. I always have 3 or 4 friends join me on my adventures without any trouble getting all our gear in the car. Also the sport edition comes with racks on the top that can be used for boards and gear. Another major pro is that the car will retain its value like any Toyota no matter how many miles I put on it. It a... (more)
Cons
Negatives are the amount of speed and acceleration I can get out of the car. It is definitely not a drag racer and will not get girls to think I am a dangerous bad boy. The car also does not have the ability to go into 2 wheel drive as it is a full time all wheel drive. This causes it to lose some fuel economy. Another slightly negative factor is the fact that there is not as big of a trunk as say a truck. You can pull down the seats however if you wanted to put say a 4 wheeler or a dirt bike there would not be room for it.
