2006 Toyota RAV4 - Reliable and functional
We inherited our RAV4 used and were pleasantly surprised by how functional it is. It is surprisingly roomy inside for a compact SUV. We've been really happy with how reliable it has been, but we have had a few issues. We have a leaking sunroof and have had two hubcaps crack from normal road use.
Story
We recently planned a camping trip in Kings Canyon National Park with friends and a friend who owns a sedan offered to drive the four of us. As we were packing the car, we realized there was no way we were going to be able to fit all our gear into the trunk. Luckily, we had the RAV. Pros
There's so much room inside! We used it for a move, and with the seats down, we could fit so much stuff inside. There's ample room in the backseat for my daughter's car seat, and even with the seats up, there is a ton of room in back. The interior has stood up really well to a lot of rough use. The interior still looks almost new. This car is super functional and fun to drive.
Cons
The sunroof on our RAV4 is the bane of my existence. It leaks like crazy. If it rains or you send it through a car wash, the seats get soaked. We've taken it in to get fixed but no one seems to be able to figure it out. My second complaint is the road noise. On the highway, this thing is loud! To the point where conversations while driving can be difficult if someone in the front is trying to talk to someone in the back. We also had two hub caps crack during normal road use. It's been frustrating to keep replacing them.
2008 Toyota RAV4 - Raving about the RAV4.
I very much enjoy the Toyota RAV 4 I purchased. Even though it is a used car, it drives like a dream. It is extremely responsive to my steering. Although its age precludes any new fancy gismos, its reliability more than makes up for that. I love the size of the car in particular! It has a large back area (where seats could be added) and is a great car for moving. I can personally attest to this, as I just moved from one apartment to another, and all of my things fit in the back. At the same time, the vehicle is compact enough that I am easily able to park it and pass others on narrow roads, even though I am a slightly nervous new driver. Story
This was the car I learned to drive in! Made it easy and fun to have a car that handled so well.
Pros
Lots of space in the back, handles beautifully, back of car opens like a door (as opposed to a hatch back).
Cons
No Bluetooth, built-in GPS, or any other fancy gismos, no sunroof.

They are well-known in LA for good deals on used and new Toyotas and they have great service. We know the manager of the Lexus dealership on the same lot.
