Toyota RAV4 Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
2012 Toyota RAV4 - Love it.
I bought it because, other than the great reviews, it handles very well. For me, at almost retirement age, the ease of getting in and out were superior. It is big enough that when two people are in the front, they have enough room and aren't "fighting" over the arm rest. Smaller SUVs are tight inside. With over 40,000 miles, I have had no major issues. Other than replacing the tires and brakes, no mechanical issues. Keep in mind, I have the oil changed on a regular basis and rotate the tires. Plenty of room in the back for luggage or a big shopping day! The instruments (dashboard) are easy to see. The cup holders are located where you can reach at a comfortable angle. There are two glove compartments which is good for me as always being organized. I can easily find what I need. The int... (more)
Story
Going on a long road trip with our dog in the back...in his own car seat, of course. Had plenty of room to reach back to give him a rub or treat.
Pros
Have had this car for a little over four years and other than normal maintenance, no problems. Good on gas and nice smooth ride. Plenty of leg room. I feel the value has held up and not depreciated as fast as other cars. Little things that matter to me like the paint is still shiny, not faded. I like the sense of pride which comes with this car. It is known as a practical car but with upgraded features. The side mirrors are easy to adjust from the front of the console. Unless you were a car geek, you would have no idea that this wasn't a newer car. I didn't find this out until after I bou... (more)
Cons
The later models have a different hatch that I like more than mine. Mine opens from left to right as the others open from the bottom. I wouldn't trade for that but will keep it in mind for the next purchase. I don't have many complaints with the car, as I have figured out how to overcome them. I had let the back seats down and could not figure out how to get them leaning at a slight angle. As I don't sit back there, I gave it no thought until some friends were sitting back there and mentioned it. While I shrugged it off with them, when I got home I got the manual out. You actually have to ... (more)
2011 Toyota RAV4 - Happy with this car
We have used the vehicle quite often in our 4 years of owning it because I needed it for job use. We have clocked in over 55,000 miles at this point. The car runs well, good gas mileage, reliable safety mechanisms. It has a nice amount of room and we appreciate especially the size of the trunk. The things we don't like about it are minimal enough where they don't drive us too crazy, but would make the car even better if improved. The cup holders are too small and the inserts stick to any cup or bottle you put in there. The gps navigation system does not allow you to operate it while you are in motion. Understandably, this was put as a safety mechanism, but it is very inconvenient when you have to make a detour or find a gas station urgently. Also, why would it not be possible f... (more)
Story
We take annual trips to Vermont and this car has been a large part of those happy memories. There's nothing more important than taking a trip with a safe car that you enjoy being in!
Pros
As mentioned, we appreciate the comfortable seating and roominess of the car, especially the trunk area. The seats are easy to move back and forth. The car is reliable when it comes to safety mechanisms/warnings, ie. low gas and low tire pressure. The speaker system in the car works quite well. The car gets good mileage which works well for me because I have used it for my employment. We have made it through to 55,000+ miles without any major problems. We also really like the color of the car - it is a dark evergreen. The car works well on snowy/icy roads.
Cons
The top negative things were the navigation system/GPS, the radio control on the steering wheel, the cup inserts below the dashboard, and possible accelerator defect. The GPS system does not always seem 100% accurate and often will not give you enough of a heads up when you have to make a turn or get off an exit. The GPS is hard to figure out how to work. It also does not let you make any changes when you are in motion which is inconvenient when you need to make an urgent detour or find a gas station. At the very least, it seems as if a passenger should be able to make a change while i... (more)
