I have had a really great experience overall with the RAV4. One of the important things I was looking for was good interior space and luggage capacity, and the RAV4 definitely has that. The back seats fold flat and has enough room that I can camp in the back of the car if I want to. I have two large kayaks, and I wanted a car that could hold kayaks well. The roof rack on the car holds my two kayaks without a problem, and I've never felt as though they were not secure when fastened to the vehicle. I am not a big fan of having a car with plastic fenders and components that are not as easy to work on as older vehicles, but that is simply the way automotive technology is going. Overall, I very much like the car, and it has treated me well the last two years.
Story
I've tested out the off-road capabilities, and it is surprisingly nimble on rough mountain roads as long as there are no big rock steps or deep mud.
Pros
Interior space is one of my biggest positives. The vehicle also gets great gas mileage. It is comfortable to drive. The stereo, navigation and controls system is intuitive and easy to use. The all-wheel drive feature allows it to be a great all-weather vehicle. I enjoy having radar cruise control, back-up camera, and other new technologies included in the vehicle. I also like the versatility of the roof rack.
Cons
Some parts in the interior seem to be slightly lesser quality and may get damaged easily. I also do not like that doing routine maintenance is more difficult due to the new technologies and so many of the components are specialized. The plastic fenders and bumpers are also much easier to damage.

2017 Toyota RAV4 - This car is what I was looking for. I am a short person, it puts me higher and let me see more, increased my ground clearance ( we get snow in winter) and makes me feel safer. I feel it will help me have better gas mileage and it has great conveniences.

The RAV4’s suspension has had an upgrade for the 2017 model year, delivering a smoother ride quality and better control. A sport-tuned suspension with blue front shocks further helps provide motorists with an exhilarating experience behind the wheel. Additionally, RAV4 drivers can customize the ride by utilizing up to three selectable driving modes, including ECO Mode, Sport Mode, and, onboard the RAV4 hybrid models, EV Mode.
Story
The Adventure identity continues inside, with such unique and exclusive features as carbon-fiber-like trim panels, leather-wrapped shift knob, “RAV4 Adventure” logoed door sill protectors, and all-weather floor and cargo mats with “RAV4 Adventure” badging. A 120V/100W power outlet in the cargo area is convenient for operating a portable air compressor or other equipment.
Pros
Driver and front passenger seatbelt pretensioners with force limiters. Child-protector rear door locks. The SUV feels very durable and stable. It's something I would be more than comfortable taking on a long trip — I never once felt a pothole or sensed an uneven road surface. I can't say that about every compact crossover.
Cons
The RAV4 hunkers down on the highway. You don't weave in and out of lanes in this SUV, you keep it at 65 mph in the middle lane. Toyotas aren't exactly known as fun cars. But the compact SUV space is only becoming more crowded, so if you don't enjoy driving one, there are plenty of others to choose from. For me, the RAV4 simply wasn't an enjoyable ride. Sturdy, yes. Reliable, certainly. But fun? Not so much.
