My vehicle was a certified pre-owned vehicle when I first saw it, and the interior looked pretty good from the look. Wasn't sure how it was going to turn out since I've never driven a SUV before, and this was my first time purchasing an automobile as costly as this. Gave it a few test drives to see how the engine is doing since it had been sitting there for about a month and was about to get auctioned off online. Feeling pretty satisfied, not too much rumbling, loud sounds, or uncomfortable bumps, so I went ahead and made a deal with the dealer. Checked out the interior design, it was pretty good. Leather seats were still attached with no rips or stain at all, and all the electronic equipment was minimally scratched, and the miles were low considering it was driven for four years befor... Story
Was pretty uncomfortable using the vehicle in the first place, since everything was different from my past vehicle. Honestly, I didn't know how to start the car and turn on the A/C when I first obtained it.
Pros
Engine is definitely one of the top things on its pro list. Very powerful even with high hills and bumpy surfaces. Mileage was good standing at only about 58,000 for four years, so it wasn’t an overdriven vehicle. Seats were very comfortable with added features like warming up or cooling down covering with black leather giving it an aesthetic feel. Safety features were all in perfect condition even more than my past car. Sensitive side mirror, back-up cameras, and warning when backing up were very helpful while driving this car. Bluetooth connection, maps, apps, and internet service all a... (more)
Cons
The sound of the engine is a little loud for my taste in this vehicle. Maybe it’s just me not getting used to driving a SUV before but definitely not one of its strong point. There are too many features in the car. It’s a weird thing to complain about, but when there are too much additions to the car that it’s so hard to find the basic function, then there’s definitely some improvement needing to be done. Half of the add-ons I don’t even use 90% of the time. Since the car’s color is white, it can be a little bit pricey to clean it during rain season or when driving through a dirty area. Le... (more)

I have owned two cars in my life, and both have been RAV4s (2009 and 2013). The first one got sold after about 18 months of owning it because I moved overseas. I loved that car so much that when I was moving back to the US, I knew that I wanted another RAV4. I think that the size of the car is perfect - it can transport a lot if you are moving from one place to the next, but it is very city-friendly in terms of parking and maneuvering. I bought it in Northern Virginia, so it has handled the mess that is DC traffic. I think moved it across the country to Arizona, where the car has been on more rural adventures. Throughout the time I've owned it (two years), it has performed reliably and comfortably in urban and rural environments, on highways and dirt roads, and in a range of weather co... (more)
Story
The first major off-road adventure I had with this vehicle was to go camping on some forest service land right by the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (in AZ). While I don't think this vehicle is built for extreme off-roading, the car handled the forest service roads quite well. We were out there for a couple days, with great hiking and impressive views (without all the crowds you get along the S... (more)
Pros
The back-up camera took me a little while to get used to, but it is probably the one feature that I would insist on for any future vehicles. I prefer to back into parking spots because I think you usually have more visibility doing that than backing out. The camera has made that even easier (and probably safer). Another feature I have used a lot is the lie-flat rear seats. This provides a lot of flexibility for how the car is used, and it is very easy to switch the seat set-up (one lever, no tricks or quirks).
Cons
So far, my only negative for my current RAV4 is in comparison to the first one I owned. The 2009 one had the option of a third-row seat, which was the main reason that I went with the RAV4 over similar vehicles from other brands (e.g., the Honda CRV). While the third row was not a spacious seating option, it was helpful to have some extra seatbelts when transporting a group of kids. When I was looking for my current car (2013), I found out that the RAV4 no longer offers this third-row option, which I think is unfortunate. So I guess if I could change one thing about my vehicle, it would be... (more)
