Overall, this vehicle exceed my expectations when purchased. Prior to purchase, I had two concerns. First, would it be big enough for my body. I'm 6' 3" and was concerned that the Prius, being a compact car, would not be spacious enough from my frame. After sitting in it, and test driving, it became apparent that the interior space was more than sufficient. Second concern was battery life and the replacement cost. At this point, after six years, the battery is still operating at top efficiency. Overall, the Prius lives up to the reputation of Toyota. This was the first Toyota I've owned. At 120,000 miles, I have not experienced any maintenance or repair issues that are not considered routine. The car has surprisingly good performance, especially on acceleration when starting fro... Story
My wife and son went camping, and due to poor selection of camp site, our tent became very wet due to water pooling. We decided to spend the remaining night in the back of the Prius. We folded down the rear seats and stuffed ourselves in the back for a cramped nights sleep.
Pros
Obviously, I purchased the vehicle for the promised fuel efficiency. This has lived up to the hype, averaging about 45-50 miles to the gallon. I drive 35 miles each way on my commute, and this is significant savings. Also, where I live, fuel efficient vehicles are permitted on the "high occupancy vehicle" express lanes with only one occupant. The car is well made, and no maintenance has been required that isn't considered routine. Routine maintenance includes brakes, oil changes and tune up at 100,000 miles. I've had not issues in poor weather, including snow.
Cons
The car has been designed light to improve fuel efficiency. At times, especially when closing the doors, you realize how light and little steel is used in the construction.

This car was purchased in Ohio, and I had to drive it back to Virginia. In some ways, it seemed very different in both form and performance from any car I had ever driven; it turned out to be very easy to handle and quite comfortable. My husband had been looking at buying a used Prius for some time, but once I drove it, I wouldn't let him have it back.
Story
I haven't had this car very long, so I don't have a lot of stories yet, but when I first had it I got a lot of compliments. A lot of people seem to like how it looks. It's really fun to drive around, though.
Pros
One thing that I really like is that is has a surprising amount of interior space. It also has a lot of head room--my 6'2" husband can sit in the driver's seat very comfortably. The car also drives very quietly, and the rear visibility for backing up is much better than I originally thought. There is also an adequate amount of rear storage space for transporting luggage and other things. And, of course, I like the gas mileage, and the efficiency. Another small detail that has come to mean a lot is the "double decker" center console in the front which gives a lot of space for small objects,... (more)
Cons
We purchased this car from my mother-in-law. She probably never would have let go of it. The driveway to the condo where she lives isn't very well-maintained and has some potholes and bumps where it turns steeply downhill. The Prius is a very low-slung car and was not very good for navigating the rough roadway. I have actually backed into a VERY shallow ditch and gotten bottomed out, but fortunately, I had someone along to help push. Another issue to be aware of seems small, but is sufficiently counter-intuitive to be potentially problematic, is the configuration of the gearshift. The car ... (more)
