2006 Toyota Matrix - An incredible vehicle
I love my Toyota Matrix. It gets great gas mileage and is incredibly reliable. I have never had any problems with the engine, and I have 120,000+ miles on it. The heater and A/C work great, the sound system sounds good for being a stock unit. I really like that it is a hatchback; I can sleep in the back. I move around a lot, and the extra space in the back is awesome. I can fit all my belongings in the car pretty easily, which is a comment on the spaciousness of this vehicle. It is pretty easy to work on, I usually change the oil, and it is simple to do. The parts are cheap for it.
Story
I've lived out of my car for years now; there are too many good memories! I've lived out of my car in Bishop; it was awesome!
Pros
My favorite part about the vehicle is the gas mileage and the spaciousness of the vehicle. I can sleep inside in the back, and I am 5'10". It has a pretty zippy engine and handles well.
Cons
It started having a rattle a couple weeks ago. My car guy said it wasn't a big deal, but it is slightly annoying. It has low clearance, which makes it less ideal for off-road conditions. The height and lightness of the vehicle makes it less ideal for windy conditions.
2005 Toyota Matrix - A Great, Versatile Car for a Fair Price
I bought this car because it is a hatchback with 60/40 seats. I needed the option of using it as a pure 5 seater family car, plus be able to load and carry items from the hardware store, on extended vacations, etc. I only have one child at home, so only need one seat in the back. The car has been EXCELLENT for both those needs. I can easily fit 2x4's (if I fold down the front passenger seat) and close the hatch. The car drives well and is quite easy to handle. Road noise is present but by far not the noisiest car I have owned. The child safety restraint systems were quite easy to access and to use. It has needed no major repairs, only maintenance and a few smaller things. I can't think of much that I dislike about this car.
Story
A four day road trip with my son. We didn't want to eat out much so packed two ice-chests and all gear necessary for the beach, hiking, fog, surf and sand. The car easily accommodated all of our gear. It drove great.
Pros
60/40 Folding rear seats, ability to fold front passenger seat down to store long items.
Great highway gas mileage
Easy to access child restraint systems
Many "storage" cubbies and compartments
Tilt steering wheel
Delay windshield wipers
Low cost maintenance
Four doors
Hatchback
Cons
The dash lights are all red. Don't like red.
Not that great city gas mileage

2010 Toyota Matrix - Capitol Subaru San Jose
The entire experience was stress free. Unlike other dealerships I've worked with, they didn't try to get me into the car and ask "WHAT CAN I DO TO GET YOU TO BUY THE CAR TODAY". They let me make my own decision.
