The 2005 Toyota Matrix has been a great car. It is reliable, efficient, and comfortable. It is sporty and was good looking for years. The only ongoing issue with it is road noise—the sound of the tires and wind noise in the cabin is enough to overwhelm the radio unless you turn it up very loudly.
Story
When we were trying to sell our house. We would have to evacuate the pets and children every time there was a showing. So, that meant I would load up one toddler, one giant dog, and three cats (plus me) into the Matrix, and hang out in the car for an hour or more (summer time meant we had to stay in the car with it running). It was surprisingly comfortable with all of us in there!
Pros
Top positives were reliability & efficiency. For a young family, it was a good car. It fit two Britax child seats (one rear-facing), without having to move the front seats up to an uncomfortable point. As an added bonus, the hatch was big enough to accommodate our Old English Mastiff (130+ pounds) and the car is low enough that I could lift him in without too much trouble.
Cons
The road and wind noise in the cabin. Second, it does not have a lot of power, even for a four-cylinder.

Car had fantastic handling and it felt faster that it was. This car is a better car. It feels more solid, not tiny. It is not as fun as my Mazda, but it is close enough. The rally style five-speed manual shifter mounted on the center console feels accurate with rifle bolt precision. Steering feedback from the electric unit was decent.
Story
One time my family went to outing with new car. It was very funny and enjoyment travelling.
Pros
The car handles well, is fairly comfortable, has good acceleration, good sound system, cavernous interior space for four people or for cargo.
Cons
A lot of road noise. Performance tires needed for the XRS trim are more expensive than regular tires and only last 36K-40K miles at the most.

The had the exact car we wanted. The customer service was top notch! They still contact us on the date we purchased our car each year, and they contact us on our birthdays just to wish us well and to keep them in mind when we get ready to purchase again.

They went above and beyond to get me into a new car that got way better gas mileage, was more family friendly and suited my needs way better than the vehicle I was in. They worked with me on the price the best they could and gave me a really great deal!
