I was a previous Matrix owner, and that experience led me to decide to purchase another. I like the Matrix for its size, economy, versatility, value, and the availability of a standard transmission.
Story
I took my daughter to Dollywood in TN during spring break. I really enjoyed seeing the mountains in the area. Dollywood was a disappointment, but we ate breakfast two times at a really good Pancake House.
Pros
Versatility: easily go from a passenger vehicle to something you can use to haul things with. I've hauled furniture, lumber, landscaping stone, mulch, and other items in the vehicle. Availability of standard transmission. I like standard transmissions because as the car salesman I worked with said, "They're more engaging to drive." Value: I paid a little over $17,000 for mine. Economy: Although not as good as my previous Matrix, I am averaging almost 32 mpg in mixed driving. Storage cavities: glove box has a top shelf, center console has open and closed storage areas. There are open storag... (more)
Cons
Water pump went out with only 75,000 miles on the vehicle; $700+ repair at an independent garage. Too many recalls. No option for fog lights and sun/moon roof, unless you were willing to pay more for a higher model line. Gas mileage not as good as the earlier Matrix, but I think that is because they made the engine a little more powerful. One complaint about the earlier Matrix was lackluster engine power.

The car is neat, compact and impressively speedy. It performs well at highway speeds, although can sway a little under high winds! It's great for hauling heavy gear like bass amps thanks to its low hatchback design. It is very customizable, for those who like to modify their vehicles. It has good build quality and has stood up to a lot of abuse from equipment being hauled in and out.
Story
I once managed to help tow a larger sedan with my vehicle after it broke down in a storm!
Pros
The car is surprisingly roomy for the size. The key fob can open the doors from an impressive distance away. Perfect car for musicians. I regularly carry amps, guitars and equipment to music venues, and the dropdown seats allow this without a lot of hassle, but still allowing for space-saving at crowded venues!
Cons
The aux jack gave out pretty early on and the radio has always been a bit iffy. For as relatively new car, I would have liked to see the possibility of inclusion of a rear parking camera and on-board GPS, but the car features neither.

Salesperson was very friendly and knowledgeable. He was easy to work with and did not try to play games to sell us a more expensive car than we came for. He showed us exactly what we asked for.

The salesman went through a bunch of cars for both my parents and myself and eventually found me my perfect car. It cost more than I wanted to spend but it has been amazing and I have no regrets.
