I really like the sturdiness of my 2006 Toyota Matrix. The car is well built. When I drive it, the ride is smooth and the outside noises stay outside. All the major parts on the car seem to be in good working order. Since, buying the car, even though it has 123,000 miles, there have been few problems due to poor manufacturing. Any problems the car has had have largely been as a result of my own fault.
Story
I enjoy putting the dogs in the back and driving to the beach.
Pros
There are a lot of pros to this car. First, the car gets excellent gas mileage. My gas bill has dropped by about $20 dollars per week from my older car. Second, I also enjoy that the car has a good engine. The car has no problems picking up speed to go over hills and bridges. Third, the car is very roomy. There is plenty of leg room in all sitting positions: I have never had to ask a passenger if they have enough room--I know they do! In additional to that, the hatchback piece of the car is also very spacious. I can put a lot in the back end of the car. It can hold several bags, my work ma... (more)
Cons
There are not many down sides to this car. My biggest issue so far has been hitting my head on the hatch on the back because it does not raise very high, being that the car is fairly low to the ground. But this is an easy workaround. Oh yes, and every few gas fill ups, the gas pump handle seems to get logged into the gas tank, which requires a little muscle to pull the handle out. The hole on the tank does seem a little smaller than other cars I have had previously. Finally, the seats in this car are AMAZING. After a long day of work, I love sitting back in them.

I love this car. I regularly transport 2-4 medium/large sized dogs in it. Even with dogs and crates, I can still pack a full set of camping gear and dog training supplies. I've never gone on a trip and not had enough room to pack everything I wanted. In a pinch I can even sleep in the back, and I'm six feet tall. Mechanically, it's a great car. It gets about 33 mi/gallon on the highway and about 27-30 city driving. I've put 40k miles on it in three years. Other than a new battery and a new set of tires, it hasn't needed anything else than routine maintenance. I'm a very tall person, and it is extremely comfortable to drive. I love where the gear shift is located.
Story
Within weeks of getting this car, a friend and I drove 500 miles to Ohio for a camping trip. We had 80 pounds of dog, 3 crates, two full sets of camping gear, food and snacks, and two human adult women riding comfortably the whole way. My friend's mom actually has the same car, so she knew my new car better than I did and pointed out many handy features.
Pros
My favorite features are storage space, driver space design, fold down backseats, and gas mileage.
Cons
Occasionally the steering wheel can lock if you turn it too much when the car is off. Some of the plastic trim on the bottom of the vehicle is not the most durable. A few pieces have become detached. It doesn't affect the drive ability of the car, it's just ugly. Don't pull too far forward over curbs, because backing up over them can rip of pieces. The Matrix does an admirable job of driving off road, but it's not really it's forte.

I love my Matrix. It is the best car I have ever had. Toyota is a wonderful company and produces cars that seem to last forever. Mine has 120,000 miles and is still going strong. Wonderful car. Bought it from Enterprise in 2007 as a used vehicle. The detraction is the paint on the car, it is metallic gold so I have had it painted and touched up several times. Now that it is older it could use another coat, but honestly the value of the car does not support it. I am going to do some clear coat touch ups and see how it looks. My car is from Florida so I need to replace all the outside window gaskets on the side windows so that it is nice and sealed, Rubber is no match for salt and sun and they are all cracked and brittle. Wanted to do it myself and it seems I have to take the doors apa... (more)
Story
I had a really silly one. Some drunk was coming out of a sports bar, and he took one look at my car and said, "that car is really ugly." I wanted to say the same about his face, but refrained.
Pros
That the motor is going on 130,000 miles and is strong. What is not to love about it? Repairs to it have been minimal. Good on gas.
Cons
The paint finish on my gold metallic car has always needed touching up and repainting. At this point with the car being 10 years old, I am doing it myself. Also, the rubber trim on the outside has not lasted well. Have to replace it. The interior trim has popped apart because the fasteners failed. I was unable to get them by themselves and was told to go to a junkyard. Instead what I did was made my own metal fasteners and used them to attach panels that no longer fit.
