2002 Toyota Highlander - It has been ok, certainly no the best vehicle I've ever owned.
All in all, the Toyota Highlander is a decent vehicle. I believe, however, that based on the price point, the Highlander may be less of a good deal than other vehicles in its class.
The vehicle performance is satisfactory. Acceleration, braking & handling are all good. That said, it doesn't feel fun to drive at all. It almost feels like an elevated station wagon to drive, and from the outside, it looks like it too.
All in all, I would not buy the Toyota Highlander again. I'd prefer something smaller and with better gas mileage and a sleeker and more attractive design.
Story
One time, on a family vacation at the coast, I was able to camp out inside the vehicle during a storm. That was kind of fun.
Pros
One pro is that gas mileage is better than most other SUV's, but it is still clearly an SUV, and the gas mileage is not as good as a sedan - and likely never will be. The only truly major pro is the available room and space in the vehicle, both for seating and hauling.
Cons
I've received several recall notices for parts in the vehicle, it's performance dipped pretty dramatically over time, and the gas mileage has always been on the poor side.
In addition the heating and cooling system is terrible. Paid over $600 to repair it when it stopped working the first time and it was broken again within 2 months. Basically, if you want to count on your vehicle temperature controls blowing hot and cold when you expect hot and cold, stay away from this vehicle. After doing online research, I discovered I'm not the only one who experienced this problem.
