This car has been in the family since 2000 and although it's changed hands to other family members and has driven all over the place it is still going strong. The interior is very nice looking and comfortable. The seats have held up well and it still feels like it does from the day it was purchased. Like a lot of other Japanese made vehicles this thing is designed to last. The only thing I am not a big fan of is the air condition and heat controls, they can be a little hard to get use to at first but once you drive it for a little you will remember where everything is and what does what. I also like the height at which the vehicles sits at, it is high up like a SUV should be but not so high up that it is hard to get in and out of. The way it drives it great too, it handles nicely like ... (more)
Story
It's nothing special but I like to take it out and just drive around and listen to the radio and enjoy the local scenery by myself and just take a break from all my troubles.
Pros
The 4 wheel drive and interior.
Cons
The A/C and heat controls can be confusing.

Toyota Highlander is one of the best mid-size car-based SUVs on the market. The Highlander offers space, versatility and other benefits of larger SUVs combined with car-like handling, smooth ride and reasonable gas mileage. The Highlander is proven to be reliable if maintained properly. I just bought it to drive back and forth to and from work. Great fuel economy and good performance. The car is very fun to drive, and I love having the four-wheel drive.
Story
Using it to take my girlfriend to the hospital when she was about to give birth to my child. Rush hour speed.
Pros
The 2001 Highlander offers good handling and soft, quiet ride. On the road, the Highlander feels very stable. High driving position, wide rear glass and large side mirrors provide excellent all-around visibility. Front seats are comfy and supportive. There is plenty of headroom. The second row space is sufficient. The 60/40 split second-row seat reclines and slides back and forth. The steering is light. The soft suspension absorbs road bumps and pot holes very well. The V6 engine is silky-smooth and responsive
Cons
The steering wheel tilts, but lacks telescopic adjustment. No third row, available unlike more recent versions. Second- and third-row seats fold almost flat. Liftgate glass doesn't open separately, no telescopic adjustment for the steering wheel

They really worked with me to make sure that I got a car that I was comfortable with at a price I could afford. I came in and told them what I could afford and they did everything they could to work with me. No sleazy sales tactics here!

The salesman seemed sincere and really listened. He did not try to sell us a more expensive car than what we wanted. He didn't try to get us to buy a car that was fully-loaded, but recognized our price limit and respected it.
