I bought the vehicle used. It has quite a simple 4 cylinder engine, which is plenty powerful enough. This SUV definitely likes long road trips. If you could just drive pretty much only on empty highways with the cruise control set at 69 miles per hour, you would most certainly be able to put one million miles on this thing before it finally quit. If you however spend a lot of time in heavy traffic, like I do in L.A., then you'll still get a fairly comfortable ride, but you'll be able to tell your car is telling you that he's unhappy.
Story
My most fun moment was when I drove along the 405 late at night and had the cruise control set at only 62 miles per hour. I noticed that the mileage was very good, maybe better than 25 miles per gallon.
Pros
The simple engine design is quite nice when you're performing basic servicing tasks on your own. The seats are quite comfortable and you sit pretty high up, so you get a good view. For being in my opinion a behemoth, I normally prefer small cars, the mileage is decent, around 22 miles per gallon. A huge pro is definitely if you drive over long distances in uncrowded conditions, then the ride is incredibly smooth and comfortable.
Cons
It's still a big gas guzzler. The check engine light has been on for months due to an issue with the catalytic converter. Otherwise it runs fine, but you do get some engine ping. You might have to use additives and gas up with premium, even though it's rated for regular. The cup holder design is somewhat inconvenient. Being an enormous SUV by my standards, one has to constantly be aware of a longer breaking distance. I'm European, and I like small efficient cars that can easily zip around a city.

Great SUV! I feel really safe driving it in all kinds of weather, especially snow. I am a slow driver, but sometimes I let it rip on the expressway and it is a quiet, smooth ride. The leather interior has worn a little from sun damage and the cup holders broke because of the cheap plastic, but otherwise this car is a gem. For a mid-sized SUV it gets pretty decent gas mileage, too.
Story
Well a friend gave me a sewing machine which I put on the floor of the back seat. I left in there for months, so every time my sister would get in the car she would laugh and say I should give to Salvation Army. I told her it was a feature of Toyota and I couldn't give away....our joke!!!
Pros
The 4WD is why I purchased the vehicle. It is great in the snow. My favorite feature is the adjustable seats. They are automatic and easily adjust if someone else drove your car. The car is very spacious, especially when you put the back seats down. Another feature I really like is the cargo cover. I can shop and put all my bags in the rear and hide them with the cover so no one sees them. It is a great theft deterrent.
Cons
My least favorite thing is the placement of the air conditioning/heating vents. I always seem to have to play with them to blow on my face since the steering wheel blocks it. Another thing the bothers me is that the tinting on the drivers side hasn't aged well... a little spotty.
