2006 Toyota Corolla - Toyota Corolla is a dependable car
I am pleased with my Toyota Corolla. It has been a pretty dependable car for me for more than a decade. As far as automobiles go, I've had a good run with the Corolla. It hasn't cost me too much money, either at the time of purchase or with maintenance fees over time. It is not the flashiest car or something that garners respect and admiration, but I think it looks fine, and that's not something I'm super worried about, personally.
Story
I have gone on multiple road trips with friends using this car. Just last fall I drove to West Virginia (from Illinois) with a friend I'd never met in person before. It was great!
Pros
The Corolla gets good gas mileage. Over the lifespan of the car, this has gone from being important to VERY important as gas prices have fluctuated. A number of years ago, when gas prices got insanely high, I can't imagine driving an SUV or a similar car that gets terrible gas mileage. The Corolla has enough space in it to transport multiple passengers and/or a mid-to-large sized shopping trip worth of goods. It's not a big enough car to move yourself or someone else from apartment to apartment, but it's big enough to chip in nicely in terms of transporting things. It's enough engine power... (more)
Cons
I think my only real gripe at this point is that recently the car has started to get expensive when it comes to maintenance. I would estimate that in the past three years, I've spent close to three thousand dollars on the car. It's getting to the point where I'm considering buying a new car because the maintenance is reaching a point where it might be a more forward-thinking and cost effective move to simply buy a new (or newer) car.
2013 Toyota Corolla - Simple and reliable
This car is the first car I bought on my own, which is just the newer version of my first car (1994 Corolla). What I liked was that it was in good condition, and things hadn't really changed that much so it was much less jarring than the Chevy Sonic I was also considering. It has some updated features, like a screen with Bluetooth connectivity and digital display for mileage and whatnot, but it's really a no-frills kind of car, which suits me fine.
Story
Probably when I was driving some friends home from our campsite. I think especially when we kidnapped our own sign because the other car left it there, and we were planning to hold it hostage.
Pros
I like that it's an updated version of what I was already used to and was well within my price range. It was also a lease, so it was in great condition, and with lower than average mileage. The size is good, as well, and the mileage isn't bad. I also like the Bluetooth connectivity, so I'm able to switch over to internet music instead of radio. Also, the trunk on my new car actually opens, so that's a pro for me.
Cons
Since it is a no-frills kind of car, there are some things I would not have minded that I don't get, like heated seats. It's also a little lighter than my old car, I think, because I feel like I'm having more traction issues in the winter (but that could just be me). There's no remote start either, but I consider features like that to be pretty wasteful, so I don't really mind.
