2014 Toyota Corolla - Security and safety
I bought this car after my previous vehicle caught fire in the middle of the expressway. I'd had nothing but trouble with that car, and when I got into the driver's seat of the Corolla, it was like coming home. Of course, it was new and beautifully glossy, and the dashboard was like smooth leather (though it's not). But more than that, there was the confidence in the Toyota build. It started quietly and purred, waiting for my commands. The dash lights are bright, everything is understated but elegant, and I know, without a doubt, that this car will safely deliver me to where I'm going. It's quite zippy for a sedan, responsive and I love the ECO feature. Every time that green light comes on, I feel like I'm helping the environment.
Story
The day I pulled out of the dealership, smiling from ear to ear, happy for the first time in months and feeling safe and confident--as if I could rule the world. I decided I needed to name this beauty. I named her Sharon--it just seemed to fit. As I told the car her new name, I lit a cigarette, promptly dropped it, and burned a hole in the upholstery. I was still so excited I could only laugh.
Pros
I love how seamlessly the Bluetooth radio features interact with my iPhone. It's as if it senses when I want to listen to a podcast or burn through some Ani DiFranco. I love that I can make phone calls without touching my phone. The gas mileage is exceptional, even three years in, and I haven't noticed it dropping. Even in extreme cold or heat, the engine starts perfectly and runs smoothly.
Cons
There's a strange little gap in the rim around the trunk space. It collects leaves and pine needles and debris from the trees that I park under. When I open my trunk, it looks like I've tossed a leaf pile in it. I haven't had water leakage, despite heavy rains, but it does make me wonder how water-tight the trunk space is.
2003 Toyota Corolla - It has been a great car
At first I didn't want the car because it seemed so basic. It doesn't have many bells and whistles but the car had been solid with very few mechanical issues.
Story
This car has lived in Minneapolis, MN and New Orleans, LA. The heat and humidity have taken more of a toll on the car than the snow/salt and cold.
Pros
There is almost 200k miles on the car and it's still running great. The A/C compressor just went out but that was the first major issue. Even a person that's 6' 3" fits alright in the car. It has more space than one would think, you can get a lot in that little car. After 200k the ride is still comfortable and the shocks and struts are still in good condition. It always gets great gas mileage. It has a great turning radius and fits almost anywhere. Not too small and not too big.
Cons
This car has had a couple electrical fuses go out and the fuse box is located in the worst place. The rear defrost fuse is out and the side mirror controller fuse is out. In these later years, the headlights and taillights go out often. I have to check and replace them on a regular basis. That's annoying.
