1996 Toyota Camry Owner Ratings & Reviews
Write a Review
1996 Toyota Camry - Great car - despite age!
I like the fact that it is super dependable. Gets great gas mileage - and therefore cheaper to run it. The interior has held up fantastically - no rips in the fabric seats, no cracks in vinyl dash. Solid car.
Story
I was refinishing my house and needed to bring 8 and 10 foot sections of baseboards - which fit in the car! I put down the backseats, angled the pieces to the front (like all the way to the windshield for one & the other out the passenger window) and got them all home!
Pros
I'm really pleased with how well the car runs after 19 years. I'm not the original owner, but I did know the previous owner and know the car's history. Mechanically the car is amazing. Just standard things have needed to be done - new tires, brakes, etc. It also gets great gas mileage - generally speaking about 31-33 miles on the freeway and about 25-26 in town driving.
Cons
I have had many cars but have never had to replace the interior door handle on any of them. I did have to do this for this Toyota. And in case you are wondering, no I'm not a weightlifter with 40 inch biceps. I am female and have a hard time opening jar lids! There are also some issues with the electric system - the radio antenna does not move.
1996 Toyota Camry - Great older car.
This is the second Camry I've owned. I love the space and interior of the vehicle. I also love that fact that all of the parts needed for fixing it are relatively cheap and I love the fact that you can fix most of the problems right at home because everything is it easily accessible. One of the dislikes I guess would be that it is an older vehicle but for how old it is, it's lasted and it well worth the investment that I've made into it. The car is 21 years old and runs better today than some of the "newer" vehicles that I've had or have driven in the past. The size of the trunk is amazing, I can fit my toddlers bike in it as well as a bunch of other things all at once. The inside is spacious and has really stood the test of time. There is some wear and tear but that is to be expected ... (more)
Story
When we moved an hour away from where we lived prior, we could literally fit most of our personal belongings into the car instead of them getting lost in the truck, plus we had room for our toddler! It made the whole process easier and drove so smoothly considering the weight that we had filled into the car!
Pros
My favorite features of the vehicle would be the size of the vehicle in total. I have tons of space inside and the trunk fits everything I need it to. I love that fact that after 21 years this vehicle is still running without having to have had major work done to it, and the fact that the parts are so cheap and easy to install have saved an exponential amount of money for me over the years.
Cons
It is an older vehicle and with the miles racked up over the years, my concern would be with the engine and transmission compensating for the wear and tear that have been put on them. Another thing that I didn't like is that I have to pull a lever for the gas tank to take the cap off when filling, although it is great to have to ward off gas thieves.
