2008 Toyota Camry Hybrid - Great Ride, Saves Money on Gas
We purchased the Camry used in 2011. We really like how it drives. It is very quiet and has a very smooth ride. It has a keyless start, so you only have to have the key fob with you in the car and push a button to start the car. It uses gas up until certain points during the drive, when it will switch over to electric power. I think it is a very well-made car and I haven't had much problem with it from a quality standpoint, with the exception of a few things which I will detail below. It performs very well both in city driving and on highways. We also haven't had any issue with it in rainy weather. We have been told by other Camry owners that it does not handle well in the snow and for that reason we haven't really taken it out in snowy conditions, so I can't speak to that.
Story
We bought the car because we had just moved to a far-out suburb with a potentially long commute, and we found out that if we owned a hybrid vehicle, we could avoid HOV restrictions on the road that would get us to work really fast (HOV = high occupancy vehicle, meaning you have to have 2 or more people in the car or you can't get on that road during rush hour). We only had 2 days to buy the c... (more)
Pros
Since it is a hybrid vehicle, the gas mileage that it gets is incredible! My husband and I estimate that it long since covered the extra money we spent to get a hybrid. As I've said before, it has a really smooth and quiet ride. It came with a built-in GPS. I know this is a small thing, but I love the fact that I can tune the radio by turning a knob instead of having to push a button … it's a an old-fashioned way of doing it but I love it since I can flip between stations much faster.
Cons
The trunk is TINY!!! We have 2 kids and the trunk will barely hold one stroller plus one other item. The sound system is not attractive and is really hard to navigate, i.e. operating it is not very intuitive and it's generally a pain. Although you can hook your cell phone up to the sound system via Bluetooth for hands-free driving, the system will only recognize one phone at a time, so if I am driving the car, I actually have to tell the car to "forget" my husband's phone, and then add my phone as a "new" phone, and he has to undo it when he drives the car. Because it's so quiet, it is... (more)
