I have owned this car for a year and it has been very reliable. It has over 225K miles on it and has not had any major work done to it and it still starts every morning for me. My only complaint is the gas mileage. I get about 18mpg driving to and from work on the highway. Around town I get about 16. It is a very comfortable car and I have slept in the back with the back seats folded down. I wouldn't hesitate to take it on a road trip. I drive this car over 60 miles each day and do not plan to replace it unless gas prices take a huge spike. I actually did replace it for a few months with a truck and drove the truck for a while. I ended up going back to the 4Runner because of the comfort. It does get expensive to drive, but I would rather not deal with the hassle of finding a replacemen... (more)
Story
My wife and I slept in the back of it and it was quite a memorable experience. It has adequate room for one person to sleep, but not two. We both were constantly bumping into each other and didn't sleep very well. It was also very cold that night (36 degrees F in the summer)

This vehicle has been an amazing buy. In the 15 years that I have had it, it has never left me on the side of the road. I have always felt safe and secure in bad weather and I have enjoyed driving and riding in it.
Story
It's not completely about this vehicle. I had quit driving it for awhile because I was driving very long distances and I had been driving a small commuter car. I then had family come in from out of town and we wanted to drive the 4Runner. My husband didn't want to use the 4Runner because it hadn't been driven much, so he borrowed his parent's car. Pros
The best thing about this vehicle is its reliability. Hands down, it has never failed me.
Cons
There are a few things about this vehicle that aren't perfect. It does not handle the greatest in its class. It also does not do well in snow in the 2WD version, which I have. But I very rarely see snow, and I was not using snow tires.

I went in to purchase a new car without a particular model in mind. All I knew when I walked in was that I wanted a car that would help me "stick it to the man" in terms of gas prices; I wanted fuel economy, but I knew I couldn't afford anything over 20,000 dollars. The salesperson recommended the Corolla, explaining that not only did it live up to its 27/35 (city/highway) claims, but it was now nearly the same size as the old Camrys. But what sold me was when the salesperson and I came to a price that, according to the salesperson, "I'm only making $300 on this deal. " That seemed fair and honest, so I bought the car. No run-around. No haggling. Just, "here's the price," and that was that.

We knew what we wanted and this dealership worked with us to make our purchase happen. The entire process of looking, dealing with paperwork and finalizing the final costs were all taken care of in one day. The owner is very friendly and very real. There is no pesky car salespeople here. This dealership made us feel comfortable and worked with us till we found what we wanted and still is.
