Toyota 4Runner Owner Ratings & Reviews

2006 Toyota 4Runner - Dependable, Fast, Appealing
The 4Runner has a very smooth ride. When you hit the highway, it's smooth sailing. It is a very comfortable vehicle, ample leg room. It's a classy vehicle, not overly stylish and not a bland appearance either. It's fairly spacious, as the back seats lay down into the floor, however, it doesn't fit as much as you might think without losing visibility from the back window. There are two rear windows that are designed to help with blind spots and parking. It comes equipped with a very nice sound system as well. The vehicle itself boasts a V6 engine, and can fly. It has no problems with acceleration, and braking is very crisp. It is a bit jerky though when accelerating. It is a reliable vehicle, as it is 8 years old and only has had a battery replacement and a rebuilt alternator. It recent... (more)
Story
Well... the story isn't fun, but it is memorable. I got stuck going up a hill with a large grade in the snow. No matter what gear I shifted into, no matter what direction I tried to go in, I just wasn't going. I ended up having to back down the hill (thanks to it being rear-wheel drive), while cars and minivans all passed me going up the hill. Pretty embarrassing when you drive a supposed off-... (more)
Pros
The best thing about the 4Runner is that it is a reliable vehicle. I've spent less than $500 on mechanical repairs over its lifetime. It drives really smoothly (very much like a car), so on long trips it is a very comfortable ride. It looks sporty with the roof rack, and it's not overly flashy or dull. The sound system also makes it fun to drive, because the system is very nice. Another nice feature is that the back window rolls down, so you can drive on the highway with the window rolled down, or if you need to have it open to carry a large object, that feature allows it to be possible. I... (more)
Cons
The most negative thing about the 4Runner is that the 4x2 (2 wheel drive) versions are rear wheel drive. I live in the Northeast, so snow driving is absolutely horrible. The Anti-Slip controls are next to useless. You'll have no indication of slippage until you're in the middle of a slide, and while you're sliding the vehicle is beeping to let you know you're sliding (I guess the timing could be way better here). This is also where the comfortable ride also gets to be a con. The 4x2 4Runner will perform better with REALLY good all-season tires, or snow tires, but with highway tires, forget... (more)
