2013 Toyota 4Runner - Comfortable and reliable
We are a Toyota family because they are very reliable vehicles. We drive a lot since we have family in another state, and it's very important to us to have good mileage. We are currently at 20 miles/gallon which is great considering the 4Runner's size. I love the color which is very dark, but not black. In the three years since we got it, we have had no problems with parts, electronics, or anything else. We have small children so we wanted something safe, which the 4 Runner is. The back-up camera is extremely accurate and very helpful. It has multiple lines to show you are getting close and you are getting really-really-about-to-hit-someone-close. This has saved me lots of time in parallel parking situations. We've driven long distances with two children and find the seats to be very c... (more)
Story
We live near some mountains and we went off roading just a little bit with the kids. The oldest one loved going over the bumpy terrain and my husband loved scaring me as he tested he limits of the vehicle. The 4Runner was awesome though and took everything we threw at it.
Pros
Lots of room for car seats in the back and it already has the anchors for a car seat in case you do not have the base.
Beautiful interior.
Lots of room in the back for all our home improvement supplies.
Easy to put the back seats down to transport trees.
Seats are very comfortable.
Back seat is comfortable and roomy enough for adults.
I like the way the radio controls are set up. I can usually do anything I need to without looking for the button.
The dark interior hides stains.
The air-conditioner is phenomenal and gets ice-cold quickly.
It's the perfect size of not too big and not too sm... (more)
Cons
I need more cupholders, but I'm not really sure where they would go anyway.
Sometimes the back seat doesn't cool or heat as well as the front does. This is tricky with kids because they can't always communicate if they are comfortable or not.
I never learned how to use the Bluetooth. Either it's complicated or I'm too busy to take the time to link my phone and actually set it up. The few times I did use it there were too many steps to identify what I wanted to do, make a call, then who I wanted to call. Sometimes the car didn't understand and I got frustrated so I just used my phone manua... (more)
2013 Toyota 4Runner - Great all around SUV
My 2013 4Runner is able to handle deep snow with ease. The winters we get in Indiana can sometimes be brutal. This past winter was one of those. I used to have to use the snow blower and go all the way down to the gravel driveway in order to get out. The 4Runner cuts through the snow with no problem. There is lots of room inside for passengers and cargo. I don't feel cramped or uncomfortable when I drive or ride. The ground clearance is great. I own a farm and have taken it to the back fields to check on some of the crops. I'm able to get over the clumps and rocks with ease and no damage to the underside of the vehicle. I would recommend this to anyone who is looking for a very rugged SUV that will get them where they need to go. My wife and I are very happy with them. We bought one at... (more)
Story
My 4Runner was able to get through the snow in our driveway with ease. Our drive is 400' long. My father was out in his Dodge Ram and got stuck trying to get out. We tried my 4Runner. I put it in 4x4 low and once I got going I let off the gas and idled through the same snow that he got stuck in. Part of this was the Michelin M/S2 tires I had vs. the Firestone's he had for street use, but it wa... (more)
Pros
This is one of the last SUV/4X4 that uses a true body on frame design instead of the weaker uni-body construction. It has a nice design and good external lines without looking like a cube or an electric shaver. The off road capability of the 4Runner is great, It can handle things the common soccer mom SUV cannot. It sits high enough that visibility is very good and you feel secure in the vehicle.
Cons
The stock tires are a weak point. When I bought mine I made sure the tires were replaced with Michelin M/S2 tires before I took delivery. The gas mileage could be a little better. I get about 21 mpg average. That's a mixture of highway with a little city and some slow 4x4 in my fields. I wanted the navigation system but opted not to get it because of the way it was designed. It took all the controls, radio, climate, etc and integrated it with the navigation system turning the entire thing into a touch screen. I didn't want to have to touch through several menus just to adjust something sim... (more)
