The 2003 Toyota 4Runner is super versatile. I have driven it in deep snow, in the mud in the mountains and through blazing hot summer days. It has a ton of room to camp in the car or put outdoor equipment on top or inside. I have moved twice and fit all of my stuff in the car in one trip. The stereo system is really high quality and hasn't declined with age. The stereo comes stock JBL, which is a rare find for a car that old. It has a six-disc CD changer and tape player, which I thought was cool if you wanted to bring out old tapes or CDs. The radio plays really well, and it has a ton of room for favorite stations. The interior is roomy enough to fit stuff and people without feeling cramped. It is great to put my dogs in their big bed and still have room for bags when we go camping. Th... (more)
Story
I drove this car all over Portland when everyone else was too scared to drive out in the snow. It was like the town was abandoned, and I had the streets to myself with my dogs in the back. I was driving my friends around and making grocery trips for everyone because they couldn't get out in the snow. I was able to have a little fun and drive a little bit more adventurous as well.
Pros
The leather interior has not worn out too bad, and the car is 14 years old. The stereo and speakers are JBL, which was stock, and they sound really high quality. I can fit two bicycles in the back and even sleep in the back by folding the seats down. I can also fit things on the top because it has a built-in roof rack.
Cons
It came with very worn out suspension, and I haven't gotten it fixed, so it rides really rough and pulls to the right when going over bumps. The back door stopped opening, due probably to rust, about one year into owning the car.

One of the first things I noticed about the 4runner when I bought it was its good looks. Until now, I think that it has stood the test of time because it still looks as if I bought it a few years ago. The design can actually compete with the newer models as far as aerodynamics and its overall aesthetics. I've driven the car from Florida to Georgia, Tennessee, Chicago, New York, Connecticut, Boston and even as far as Canada and it never failed me. The mileage on it is about the distance from the Earth to the Moon. The interior still looks great although there are small signs of normal wear and tear but other than that, it's in great condition. I like the looks of it just as much as I love driving it. Driving to all those places, in different kinds of weather, I honestly can't complain. ... (more)
Story
I'd drive down the beach to go fishing. I'd have my fishing tackles in the back, my poles tied on the roof, and my son in the back seat just enjoying the ride.
Pros
Timing chain as opposed to a timing belt for longevity. The paint on it after all these years, doesn't have a single stain of rust. The V6 engine is strong for its size.
Cons
The front caliper disc brakes which I had to replace three times. It's fuel consumption is about 21/mpg when driven in the city.
