1999 Toyota 4Runner Owner Ratings & Reviews

1999 Toyota 4Runner - Toyota strong.
I've been beyond satisfied with my vehicle due to the continuous low maintenance I have to tend to. I'm a single female therefore having a reliable mechanic is hard to find so I tend to keep up on what maintenance I can to keep from having hard issues such as oil changes, tire rotation and tune up! And I've been amazed after 4 years I have not have any major mechanical issues with my vehicle. I like that its low maintenance and the overall comfort of the driver side in reference to being able to access/reach everything is great. For it to be a SUV it has a smooth ride and does not feel like a large size SUV and you are all over the road. I recommend this vehicle to mothers vs. mini van because it does have plenty of cargo space and back seat area for kids.
Story
A memorable story I had using my vehicle is when my son little league football team was in a parade. We had arrived early and all the young boys were ready and excited. The coach were going have some of the boys inside his truck and on the back and the remain walk along side the truck. It was a total of 15 boys. Unfortunately the coach was in an accident on the way to the location of the site ... (more)
Pros
I'm a massage therapist and the truck space accommodates my massage table and the other equipment needed for me to be productive. I love it has a sunroof and that the back window of the truck lets all the way up and down. During the summer time, with all the windows down and the breeze flowing through, I feel like I have a convertible. Its the closest I will come to having a convertible because of the safety issue. I enjoy being able to have a overhead storage compartment for my sunglasses and extra storage space on the armrest of the console. My top positive thing about the vehicle is the... (more)
Cons
The negative things about the truck is it does not accommodate larger weight passengers comfortably. Neither the front passenger nor back seat area is suited for a heavier set passenger to ride for periods of time comfortably. I dislike that the vehicle is driver focused. The sound system is specifically design for front seat passenger. Therefore it has to be played larger than normal for back seat passenger. There should be more speakers in the rear area. I dislike it does not have a vent specifically for back seat passenger or a control center for them to adjust themselves. The vents are... (more)
1999 Toyota 4Runner - Great truck, long lasting
My family has had this truck for 15 years and it's been great to us. We live in LA and it was my Dad's commuter vehicle, then mine. This means heavy freeway use, maybe 2 hours on the road a day during the week. In all that time, we've never had any serious problems. With good maintenance, this car will last forever. It's very faithful and won't poop out on you suddenly. The gas mileage is respectable for a vehicle this size. I would definitely recommend the 4-Runner.
Story
I love taking my truck to the beach. It's a great coastal car. You can carry your surf boards on (or even in) it, roll down the windows, and let the breeze flow in. Very spacious. My car is full of sand, haha.
Pros
It is a truck, but it's not too big. If you're worried about the size, it's very easy to handle. I can squeeze it down alleys packed with cars, no problem. The gas mileage is pretty good for a truck. It's useful to haul things, has plenty of room. Very spacious. It's a great truck if you want something that's not too big or a gas guzzler. Because it's tall, I always feel very safe in my truck. Not to mention it's a pretty nice looking truck, despite it's age. I'm a girl and I always feel like a badass in my truck.
Cons
The 4Runner doesn't have much kick. It's not a fast car, and shakes if you start going 90. But there is always the ETC button, which allows more gas to the engine, which lets you go faster. The braking is okay. It's no BMW, but it'll get the job done and is very safe.
Another con, after about 10 or so years of use, you may have to replace the cadallic converter (not sure how to spell that, haha) so it can pass a smog check. That's like $600.
