After driving all types of cars for almost ten years in India and abroad, I was really impressed with the new Swift diesel. I planned to buy a new Swift diesel, hence I tested not just the test car, but went ahead to book a car from Avis rental agency to self drive—to get the real feel and the actual pros/cons. The Swift I got had 18,250 Km under four months—so, it's indeed a real test, and it's going to reveal the truth. First impression: No big difference except for loose electrical brake light. I didn't find any major hiccups!! Performance was same as new/engine sound was the same! Power: Throughout, the distribution is good—clocked speeds up to 170 KM/hr. without hassle! We drive very fast in the streets and doing drifts. One day, we crashed in on to a police car and ran away with excitement.
Pros
Amazing pickup. Great mileage. Handling and braking a diff league.
Cons
Ride at slow speeds compromised a bit to enhance handling.

I love the feeling of the cloth seats. Being so low to the ground makes it interesting to get in and out of. The feeling of taking corners with it is amazing. I'll never forget the feeling of power-sliding around country roads like a rally car. It always makes a weird sound when I start it up, but that's because of its age .I really like beating everyone off the line at stop lights. When I need to fill it up I can do so for less than $30. If I had the money, and could find others, I'd buy three.
Story
My first introduction to how unstoppable this car is was when I was driving down a road with some water that had settled over it after some heavy rainfall. I decided that it didn't look like much, so I could easily handle it. I plowed through and found the water was deep enough to reach the top of the wheel wells and hydroplaned through, but my car.
Pros
The five speed manual transmission always feels slick when changing gears. It has less than the hundred something horsepower it was made with but it still plows through snow like car three times its size. In an emergency, you can always get in through the back hatch. Maneuvers almost too well. It has power steering and no power anything else. My record without purposefully trying to get good mileage is 54 mpg.
Cons
I can't go over 55mph if there's a 20+mph headwind. The radio hasn't worked in a decade and I don't have any cassettes. The door handles can snap off in extremely cold (-30F) weather. The rear brakes are drum breaks which nobody puts in cars anymore because they don't perform very well compared to disc brakes.

The 1988 Suzuki Samurai is a throwback to a bygone era. It's a very simple, basic vehicle that performs well. It provides no luxury, however.
Story
This car has been in my family for over 20 years. My dad owned it before I did. He once drove it from Georgia to New Mexico. Since I have owned it, people are constantly asking if it's for sale! I'm keeping it, though.
Pros
This vehicle is very reliable and as gentle on tires as any car I've ever heard of. I once had a set of tires that lasted over ten years; I only had to replace them when they began to dry-rot. The tread was still good. The car is easy to work on. All the systems are simple compared to modern ones and it's easy to work under the hood or under the frame.
Cons
The vehicle is very austere and spartan. I like to tell people that every ounce of comfort has been filtered out of it. I would hate to go on a cross-country trip because it is very uncomfortable to sit in for long stretches.
