Subaru Outback Owner Ratings & Reviews

2005 Subaru Outback - Solid car, if properly maintained
I really like this car. It gets around very well. Gas mileage is good. I typically get 27-28 MPG in mixed driving. At 165,000 miles, I have yet to see any problem signs, but it had been very well taken care of by its previous owner. It is my understanding that Subarus in particular are very picky about routine maintenance- but if it is followed you have a vehicle with very few problems. Performance overall is ok. It's not the quickest in 0-60 and is not going to win any drag races. However, you will be able to merge with traffic easily and will be able to cruise all day at 80 mph without problems.
Story
Any trips I've taken with my grandson. Even when we go to do shopping, he really enjoys going on rides in my "Scooby Doo!"
Pros
All-wheel drive. I live in a rural area and can have all sorts of weather. It's nice to have AWD at my disposal. Like the gas mileage. I typically get 27-28 MPG. It has the essential "luxury" items as standard (power seats, power windows, A/C, power steering, power brakes). Controls overall are laid out well, although there are a few that are easy to inadvertently activate. I have issues hitting the cruise control with my knees for example. Like having the cargo capacity of the station wagon.
Cons
Tires. If for whatever reason you have a ruined tire, you have to replace as a set (ouch). Head gaskets and timing belts are a known issue. Seats difficult to find a comfortable position for long trips.
2005 Subaru Outback - Good, solid car!
2005 Subaru Outback - even though I bought essentially the base model, it has all the features I like (power steering, A/C, power and heated seat, power mirrors. And AWD to boot!
Story
My five-year-old grandson calls it "Poppy's Scooby Do car!"
Pros
Good gas mileage. I am typically getting in the area of 28-30 miles per gallon in mixed driving. All-wheel drive always on. No messing with switches or other controls to go into all-wheel drive. Roomy cargo area- with the back seats folded down, suspect I have the same amount of cargo area as some short bed pickups.
Cons
Seats. I might be spoiled. (My previous car was a Chrysler LHS that felt like a comfortable easy chair) but have yet to find a position in the Outback that I truly feel comfortable. Tires- recently hit a pothole that blew out a tire. Instead of replacing the blown out one, had to replace all of the tires, even though the set was probably good for 20,000 miles. Apparently, Subaru recommends replacing all tires due to the potential to damage the AWD system.

2014 Subaru Forester - Roper Subaru
Patrick Stone, the sales person, was great. I (a middle aged woman) showed up to test drive the vehicle and he never once hinted around about whether or not my husband would be involved in the decision. He just answered my questions and assumed that I was the decision maker, which I was.
2014 Subaru Forester - Lou Fusz Subaru St Peters
The salesman, Ron, was great at giving me the best price for the model I was interested in. There was no pressure in buying upgrades or haggling. I received a very fair value for my return and had a very positive experience at this dealership.
