Subaru Outback Owner Ratings & Reviews

2018 Subaru Outback - Workhorse
Overall, this is an amazing vehicle for the price. We were initially drawn to it because of its Consumer Reports high safety and usability ratings; we ended up buying it because the interior was roomy, it had great included technology features, and it fit our lifestyle, which is a couple with elementary-age children. I wanted a vehicle that could comfortably and safely transport three kids, two large dogs, and two large suitcases for eight hours, and this meets that requirement.
Story
We spent the first weekend in our Subaru driving out to the lake and having a picnic with our kids.
Pros
Price was great value, top rated for safety by consumer reports, great leg room and storage, fantastic technology features like back-up camera and Eyesight Lane assist.
Cons
The Eyesight technology is a great idea that, like many things, is better in theory than application. In theory this technology should assist your car to stay within the lanes and "gently" guide the car back to the lanes should you accidentally veer out of your lane. In practicality, the lanes in my town are so thin that the car thinks we are veering out of them all the time to the point that at best the constant pinging alerts of the Eyesight system are annoying and at worst I get habituated to them and don't even really pay attention to the constant sounds so they are practically useless... 2015 Subaru Outback - Great family vehicle
This is the second Subaru I've owned, and I have loved them both. I used to live in Colorado where the all-time 4WD was more important than in the South.
Story
I have truly enjoyed going on long car trips with my kids around North Texas. It is a comfortable ride for sightseeing.
Pros
I really love the all-time 4WD. It helps even in mildly bad weather. The reason I purchased this vehicle compared to similarly sized vehicles in my price range was because the back seat is wide enough to put a car seat and two adults comfortably. Since my purchase, I have had the frequent need to put three car seats across the back seat, and the Outback has accommodated that need. There is enough room to fit five people as well as ample trunk space. In addition, I have been able to haul relatively large items by laying down the back seat.
Cons
The only major malfunction I have had with the Outback is that every year (approximately) I have to replace the battery. I have read on forums where other owners have had this problem as well. The salesperson told me when I purchased the vehicle that some people are not fond of the continuous variable transmission. I have found that it makes a whirring sound but is otherwise not a problem.

Houston, TX Dealer Ratings & Reviews

2007 Subaru Baja - Gillman Subaru North Houston
All of the employees at this dealership are nice and knowledgeable, attempting to handle any issues or misconceptions that you might have about the vehicles or the purchase process. Everyone was patient when we looked at the many different vehicles, which was very nice - other dealerships I've been to generally don't give you much time to look around.
2007 Subaru Baja - Gillman Subaru North Houston
They were very helpful, and not pushy while looking at vehicle choices. They also allowed a pretty long test drive for a few vehicles, until I was sure about which I wanted, which was very nice.
