2001 Subaru Outback - Great mountain vehicle
It is a great vehicle for mountain and harsh, rugged snowy weather driving when you really need it. It has a great look and runs great after 15 years. Only problems would be map sensor and electronic issues after 50,000 miles. It's an easy to park midsize vehicle with plenty of space. It looks very sporty for an older model.
Story
We took the trip from Colorado to Arizona with two bikes and luggage in the back and it helped us make it over a snowy mountain pass and through the Arizona dessert heat to the Grand Canyon with good highway driving.
Pros
If you select the 4WD option it offers great performance in the Colorado mountain region during heavy snow conditions when you need it for safety. The hatchback and roof rack options add plenty of space for hauling all you need for an outdoor adventure from hiking to skiing to rock climbing. It has a very sleek exterior for such an old model. You can easily fit two bicycles in the back of the car or multiple skis inside not requiring using the roof rack.
Cons
Only cons of the vehicle would be that it isn't very fuel efficient on the open road due to the four-wheel drive. The map sensor tends to have issues after a while leading to worsened gas mileage. The interior begins to look bad if the previous owner did not take care of it. The remote lock does not beep the horn to let you know that it's locked so most times you need to check it manually to be sure it's lock.
2002 Subaru Outback - A great car for what you need it for.
I recently got this car from a friend of mine that told me he was going to get a new car. I love buying cheap cars and keeping them around for different driving experiences so this was cool to me. I think that this car is a pretty sufficient one for what it is made for. I would probably recommend this car to anyone that is looking to camp.
Story
Just driving up to the mountains is a lot of fun in this car. I would try it out if you are a fan of the outdoors.
Pros
It is fairly sturdy. He has used minimal maintenance methods to keep this car running, and there really isn't anything there to complain in that department aside from having to give it extra coolant in the summer and definitely keep up on the power steering fluid.
Cons
While I said there wasn't much maintenance to this car, there is still times where I will be on the road and need to pull over at a rest stop in order to refill coolant or steering fluid. In addition to this, there also is a bit to be desired in terms of the miles per gallon situation with it. All in all, the pros will outweigh the cons.

Subaru Outback -
It was easy to buy a car, wasn't getting ripped off. The car needed brakes and tires but other than that was high miles and in great shape.
