2013 Subaru Outback - Favorite Car
We sold our old car because, even though it was new, we wanted a car that would be more reliable. I posted on Facebook and all my friends suggested I get an Outback. We have three children and we figured out that by purchasing slim line car seats we can fit all three kids in the back. I prefer that to a minivan because I can reach them all to hand them things at a red light and it doesn't use as much gas.
Story
We have driven the car to Florida from Tennessee many times and I love it every time.
Pros
There were several things that appealed to me besides the reliable reputation. First of all, I could put my kids in the middle and the dogs in the back so our whole family could travel together. Secondly, I really like the size of the car, I found that it was off the ground enough for me to feel safe with bigger cars, but was not too huge. We get a pretty decent gas mileage as well. I also think it is kind of funny that a lot of our friends seem to have the same car.
Cons
I can't really think of anything negative except for the price, but I think that is to be expected from a high quality car. I would prefer a price around $15k for a new Subaru. That said, we will probably keep it for a decade so it averages out in the long run.
1990 Subaru Outback - Steel Reliability
My Subaru has been my first car since I turned 18 and my mother gave me her older vehicle that she had used to drive her mail route every year since I was only little. This car is the definition of reliable. It's only a year younger than I am and still going strong, and that's with only a small amount of maintenance. The 4WD helped her deliver mail in the winter and it helps me today to get to work through the snow when everyone else is stuck on the side of the road. It has tons of space for camping, moving, and just general living. The fuel economy is decent and I haven't had any major problems along those lines. One problem I have had is when it comes to replacing parts, they're generally hard to find and therefore can be a tad more expensive than your more common car parts. Still, I... (more)
