I really enjoy the Subaru Outback. It is a great small wagon that has the function of an SUV. It runs well, and I have never had any issues with running or maintenance. It can go in tight places but also has the power to climb mountains. This is a great little wagon.
Story
We went down ten miles of dirt road, and the Outback handled the bumps.
Pros
I absolutely love the eyesight function. It keeps me from getting in accidents by letting me know what is around me at all times. It beeps as an alert for things coming close and even stops your car when needed. Great feature for safety.
Cons
I did not like the light-colored leather I chose. It has gotten dirty way too easily. I am very glad I chose the V6 option, because otherwise, I would have hated this car. The V6 is the only one with enough power to go on trails and up mountain sides.

The Subaru Outback has subtle styling and is compact for an SUV/crossover. The weight, handling, dashboard design, gas tank placement, and general comfort let me know that I have moved up into the nicer car realms even though the price was moderate. Although I have had some repairs I have never broken down. I have never been more than slightly injured - other drivers where I live are crazy so there have been some encounters - and I feel the Subaru protected me. The split back seats and easy adaptation make it ideal for going to IKEA!
Pros
The Subaru Outback has excellent safety ratings. One of the ratings I was particularly concerned about was side-impact and it met my standards there. It handles well. I am shirt so I like that the seat moves vertically. I have electronic drivers seat control so its easy to make small adjustments even while sitting in the seat. The dashboard is well designed so the various controls are easy to read or select without taking one's eyes of the road for more than the minimum. The car is slightly raised up without being a crazy-high SUV which helps protect against potholes, metal sheets over po... (more)
Cons
Like any hatchback/station wagon you know that what you put in the back will not be invisible. Use the cargo cover. I also keep cardboard boxes to contain my cargo. The four-wheel drive is great in hills or snow, but it means that if you have to replace one tire you have to replace all four. There were SO MANY of the same car where I used to live. But I never tried to get into anyone else's so it was ok.
