The Subaru Outback is a great car off the show room floor. The vehicle is reliability and requires the standard maintenance. Overall as this car ages, parts break and constant repairs are the order of the day. Driving this car is a joy, but then again over time, you will tire of the ride.
Story
Driving the car in the heat of the dessert.
Pros
The "Pros" for this car are the all wheel day and drive train. The car has a sleek appearance and durable finish. When new, this car has a nice ride. Off road treks are possible once you understand the limitations of the AWD.
Cons
For this car expect very high repair bills as the car ages. Problems have been noted on the engine to include head gasket oil leaks, low life water pumps, faulty alternators, and cheap fit breakable plastic parts. Window seal stop sealing and the air noise becomes pronounced. The foam in the bucket seat does begin to breakdown making the seats uncomfortable. Road noise, even with new tires is loud and disturbing. Expect to pay for tires annually, a new battery every 3 years. Expect to replace the knock sensor every 5 years, as well as the water pump and alternator. Should you wish to fix l... (more)

I will start with the cons. As a parent with a child in a car seat, I am frustrated by the design of the back door frame. It angles in such a way that makes it difficult to lean in to put a baby in a car seat. Particularly in a rear facing car seat. Another door issue I have with my outback is that the metal frame does not go around the window. This has created a lot of air noise in the car on the drivers side while driving due to the seal being moved from the flexing of the window when you close the car door. We have also had to have several expensive repairs done in the year that we have owned this Outback. These repairs included replacing the head gadget and the catalytic converter. There are many pros to this Outback as well. I love the hatchback. As a mom who loves to hike I have... (more)
Story
We love to drive our outback to local state parks and through the mountain passes. We have been building many family memories in our outback. We love to drive to deception pass bridge and take in the views.
Pros
I love the hatchback. The sun roof is a great extra feature. A strange positive thing I like is the cup holder that pops out from the dash. It is so handy!
