1998 Subaru Legacy - The Subaru Legacy was a great first car and I had no problems with it!

I loved my Subaru Legacy. It had leather seats in it which were very high quality and plenty of room in the trunk to store things. It was relatively quiet when driving and came with decent speakers to play music through. Also, it was all wheel drive which helped me out a bunch trying to get up icy hills and roads.
Story
As this is an all-wheel drive car, one time my friends and I went into an abandoned frozen-over parking lot and drifted it around for about an hour. It was the only car that wasn't front-wheel drive so we were all pretty excited to try it out.
Pros
The biggest positives about this vehicle were it's all-wheel drive and the fact it had leather seats. Additionally the gear-shift and E-brake were comfortable and out of the way of your leg area. It was very quiet while accelerating and had no problem getting up icy hills or steep slopes.
Cons
The cup holders were very hard to use and would obstruct the time display if there were drinks in them. Additionally, the button to roll down the window was placed on the door in an inconvenient spot, as it would dig into your leg if you rested it up against it.

My mom owned a 1998 Subaru Legacy wagon for many years. When I got into a serious car accident, I got it off her. I have used this vehicle since the beginning and it runs strong. You can fit tons of groceries, animals, camping equipment, etc. in the car, as well as 4 to 5 friends for a long road trip.
Story
My mom had a great Pitbull who had serious abandonment issues. She left him in the car for a while once and came back to the entire inside roof being removed. The whole thing needed to be re-upholstered. Don't leave your dogs in the car!
Pros
The Legacy is a great travel car. It's got all the space you need, but without being clunky. You can even put the seats down and put in an air mattress if you're doing some solo travel. Plus it's got all wheel drive so you can take it in less than perfect conditions.
Cons
The biggest issue I have with this vehicle is the gas mileage. Even with the manual transmission, I'm getting maybe 28 miles per gallon if mostly on the highway. It's not as good of gas mileage as other small, newer cars I've driven. The car is also pretty low to the ground, which can be a problem on rural roads.

The sales people were not pushy. Financing was fast and easy. Everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. They worked with us on the price of our new car and the value of our trade in. They did everything they could to accommodate us and make sure that we were satisfied with our car buying experience.
