I enjoyed my Subaru Legacy for it's durability during my young years. Having the power of a sports car in a 4 cylinder made cruising to the beach from anywhere in San Diego quick and cheap. Many times while out camping, my car was the only one that could handle the rocky or dirty roads with ease while my friends trucks and cars would get stuck.
Story
I remember taking my Legacy down to blacks beach in La Jolla, CA for a beach gathering we were organizing with our friends. I was able to haul the huge speakers all the way down the hill, saving us at least an hour for our whole team and essentially getting us down before the sun completely set. I adventure that ensued after was much more enjoyable with my newly purchased car parked next to me.
Pros
My favorite feature of the Subaru Legacy would be the amount of space inside. Compared to other 4 door cars coming out, the Legacy feels spacious and open. This can be pretty important when you have black leather and hot California afternoons.
Cons
Unfortunately the backseats fold down but not completely flat. This makes it hard when trying to move something rigid like a mattress or dressed without having to lower the front passenger seat and working the furniture in through one of the back doors instead of the trunk. This would be one reason I might choose a Subaru Legacy wagon next time instead of a coupe.

The best part about owning a Subaru Legacy is the durability of the vehicle. Whether we were going to the beach or the river it always handled well and made strong movements. I did have a few times where my trunk locked and was unable to be opened by the key, which was tricky because I had to jimmy my arm between the pull down seats to unlock them and get back in. It almost made for some ice cream soup!
Story
I enjoyed driving my Subaru on the beach to pick up my friends and some music event equipment one morning soon after I had purchased it. It was a steep windy road down to the beach and my little Subaru was able to pick the 3 of them up and all the speaker equipment and haul us up right before sunset.
Pros
The black leather made the car warm and kept it nice and clean. I was looking for suede but am glad I got full leather instead. The moon/sun roof is awesome and makes for great trips down the freeway with my girlfriend blasting music. I would definitely say for a car from 98 it has OK sound built in.
Cons
The car did have issues with the car overheating when it was first purchased. I had to do costly repairs on the coolant system and transmission. The car doesn't seem to like to run the AC but I prefer rolling the windows down anyways. The tires were not new and show signs of stress and wear.
