I love my little old Subaru! It's like driving a little tank, super sturdy and takes any abuse I've given it. I hit a rough patch with work a few years ago and couldn't take it for regular maintenance, but it never gave me any problems. It always starts, runs great, and the full time AWD (all wheel drive) is great in the snow and ice. I've even passed cop cars stuck on really snowy days! I would recommend to anyone.
Story
Passing some cops and taxis stuck in the snow on really bad winter days. I live in the Midwest and it can snow here quite a bit. The hills where I live are what really get folks stuck. But never me! I've even called my friends to see if they needed me to come pick them up.
Pros
Super reliable car. Known to last for many miles with the right maintenance. Also very forgiving if you slack on some maintenance sometimes too. Not too bad to work on yourself. I've done a lot of little things, repairs, parts replacements myself and every time, it's easier than I had expected.
Cons
They are a little more costly in my experience. Even a used one is more money than another perhaps similar car. However, I feel that you pay a little more up front and the trade off is less to deal with throughout the life of the car. Some parts may be a bit pricier, but that's an import for you!

I love having a Subaru wagon. It has lot's of room for shopping, my dog, or even when helping someone move. The all wheel drive, AWD, is really great during the heavy winter storms we have here in the Midwest, and it never leaves me stuck. It always starts up, runs smoothly, and is a very reliable car.
Story
When our band tour van wasn't working and we had a show, we packed a full drum kit, and huge bass speaker and tube amp, horns, and microphones in the Subaru, plus, 3 full grown adults. It was packed and cramped, but the car got us to a gig 3 hours away no problem.
Pros
I like how easy this car is to work on myself. The intuitive design by the Japanese engineers really helps to keep things simple. Changing the breaks, super easy, changing the fuel filter near the engine is easy to find. Even when I changed the fuel filter and fuel pump that is inside the tank gas tank, it was all very easy to get to, from a little port inside the backseat of the car, instead of having to go to a mechanic and remove the gas tank, etc.
Cons
Sometimes finding the right parts can be tricky, but I'm not always sure if it's really a parts problem, or as I suspect, a problem with the people at the parts store not knowing what they are doing or looking up. My Subaru is a manual transmission, which I prefer, but replacing the clutch is expensive. Since I live in a hilly city, this has needed to be done twice in two years, and not because I'm riding the clutch, it just wears out faster in this city with lots of hills and stop signs every block.
