Subaru Forester Owner Ratings & Reviews

2009 Subaru Forester - Not sexy but versatile
The Subaru Forester is a bit of a jack-of-all trades. With 4 doors and a hatchback it's able to haul multiple kids and their equipment to and from hockey practice. However, it does that without being a sprawling SUV or a minivan. It's got enough pep for its practical side but if you're looking for a really fun car, this isn't it. The interior is functional but not flashy, with solid visibility and perfectly acceptable comfort. The car is a bit generic in terms of looks (it took me a while to recognize it in the parking lot when I first got it) but it's not ugly. I haven't had any real problems with it, so I'm pleased with that. It's a functional, practical car. It does that well. Being sexy and fun, not so much. But for my needs, that's currently fine.
Story
I pulled through a drive-thru, on my own, when the car was relatively new. The cute girl at the window said, "Nice car." I didn't know if she was being facetious or just flirting with me or if she really liked the car that much. Regardless, for a middle-aged guy like me it pretty much justified the car purchase.
Pros
It's got a good amount of storage space for the size of the car. You don't have to buy a minivan to be able to pack the kids and luggage into the car and take a trip. Good visibility. No mechanical problems as of yet.
Cons
Not quite as much power as I would like. Fuel economy is a bit less than I'd hoped, though it's not bad. Interior is a little spartan.
2004 Subaru Forester - Slightly disappointed.
Subaru has a reputation for quality and safety, and I was excited to experience one for myself.
Story
My husband surprised me one day by driving through the woods on the way back home from Target. It handled the rugged terrain well, I was surprised. I think it would handle rugged better than going up a steep incline.
Pros
I loved the size of the SUV. The seats are fairly comfortable.
Cons
Honestly I was a bit disappointed overall with the car. First of all, it is very loud, especially on the highway; it sounds like the window is open when it isn't, like a wind tunnel. I'm not sure if it is due to the year it was made--perhaps the newer models have fixed this issue. Second, the car is not as powerful as one would think, given it is a four-wheel drive vehicle. I live in a mountainous area and it doesn't seem powerful enough. Also, it doesn't accelerate very quickly.
